BYD’s electric hatchback prepares visual changes, mechanical review, and adjustments in the cabin amid the advancement of competition in Brazil, with changes that also affect equipment, dimensions, and driving assistance features.
The refreshed BYD Dolphin is already on the radar of the Brazilian market with changes in design, cabin, powertrain, and driver assistance package.
The update was launched in China in March 2025, and the renewed model has already been spotted testing in Brazil, reinforcing expectations for its arrival in the national market throughout 2026.
Among the expected changes are a revised exterior, a remodeled interior, and the adoption of a stronger powertrain in the entry-level versions, in addition to the removal of a feature that marked the brand’s recent identity.

2027 BYD Dolphin visual changes outside
At the front, the most noticeable change is in the headlight assembly.
The hatch received redesigned headlights, with a contour more integrated into the front, revised bumper, and a new air intake.

At the rear, the change was more discreet: the “Build Your Dreams” inscription on the interconnected taillights is replaced by the BYD logo, repeating a visual pattern that the manufacturer has already begun to adopt in other models.
Electric hatch dimensions increase
The dimensions have also changed.
The Dolphin now measures 4.28 meters in length, maintaining a width of 1.77 meters, a height of 1.57 meters, and a wheelbase of 2.70 meters.
As a result, the hatch is larger than the model initially launched in Brazil, although it retains the same structural base.
This change aligns with the body presented in the Chinese market.
BYD Dolphin engine may change in Brazil
In the mechanical set, the main expected change for the entry-level version involves the engine swap.
The forecast published by specialized media is that the Dolphin GS will use the same setup as the Yuan Pro, with an electric motor of 177 hp and a battery of 45.1 kWh.
Currently, the Dolphin sold in Brazil has 95 hp, a battery of 44.9 kWh, and a range of 291 km according to Inmetro’s PBEV.
If this configuration is confirmed upon the arrival of the new line, the model will have a significant increase in power compared to the hatch currently sold.
In the Chinese market, the updated line now offers three power calibrations: 94 hp, 174 hp, and 204 hp.
The first two use a 45.1 kWh battery, while the most powerful version operates with a 60.5 kWh pack.
According to the Chinese CLTC cycle, the announced ranges reach 420 km for the 94 hp version, 410 km for the 174 hp version, and 520 km for the top-of-the-line version with 204 hp.
However, these numbers cannot be directly compared with Brazilian data, as Inmetro’s standard tends to record more conservative results.
So far, the national range of the future 2027 line has not been disclosed.
Plus version should maintain stronger setup
In the more expensive configuration, the trend is to maintain the 204 hp engine and 31.6 kgfm torque, accompanied by the 60.5 kWh battery, a setup already known from the Dolphin Plus sold today in the country.
In the current model, this version records a range of 330 km according to Inmetro, in addition to a fast charge from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes.
The manufacturer also reports a similar interval for the entry-level version, within the conditions stated in the official data.
Dolphin interior gains new organization
The cabin has received significant changes.
The new Dolphin adopts a three-spoke steering wheel, redesigned central console, fewer physical controls, and a gear selector positioned on the steering column.

The instrument panel has increased from 5 to 8.8 inches, while the multimedia center remains at 12.8 inches.
The reorganization of the interior expands space in the console and includes an area for 50 W wireless charging.
Rotating screen exits the new line
It is at this point that the model abandons one of the most well-known features of the line.
The current Dolphin, sold in Brazil, has a central screen with electric rotation, a feature highlighted by BYD in the car’s technical sheets.
In the renewed body, the center maintains its size but no longer offers this function.
The change has been recorded in the model already presented abroad.
Assistance package expands safety features
Another advancement is in the driving assistance package.
The updated Dolphin debuted in China with the God’s Eye C, the entry-level version of BYD’s ADAS platform.
The system combines cameras and radars and includes functions such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and sign reading, in addition to additional assisted driving features on highways in the Chinese market.
The adoption of this technology enhances the hatch’s safety content at a time of increased competition among compact electric vehicles.
Competition grows in the electric market
In Brazil, the Dolphin remains one of the most visible models within BYD’s strategy in the electric vehicle segment.
The update occurs in a scenario of increasing competition, with the arrival of new Chinese brands and the advancement of the partnership between Renault and Geely for the production and sale of electrified vehicles in the country.
In this context, BYD’s hatch is expected to respond with more power, an updated cabin, and enhancements in the electronic assistance package.
What is still to confirm in Brazil
There are still no official confirmations from BYD Brazil regarding the exact composition of the range, the definitive list of equipment by version, and the local range figures for the 2027 line.
Despite this, the set of information already available indicates that the Dolphin will undergo a comprehensive update, with visual changes, interior alterations, and technical revisions.
The removal of the rotating screen also marks a change in direction in the project, adopting a more conventional solution for the multimedia center.
