Elon Musk’s X Network Is Back in Brazil After Being Blocked by Alexandre de Moraes’ Decision. Understand How a Technology Enabled This Surprising Turnaround

Is X Back? That’s the question thousands of Brazilians are asking this Wednesday. The social network X, owned by billionaire Elon Musk, managed to resume its operations in Brazil after a series of blocks imposed by internet providers by court order from Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

O Antagonista states that the return was made possible by the use of a technology called reverse proxy. This technology directs user traffic to Cloudflare’s servers, a company renowned for protecting and optimizing the performance of numerous websites around the world.

X Is Back? Understand How Elon Musk Managed to Reactivate the Social Network

Essential services in Brazil, such as company and government websites, widely use Cloudflare. If the providers attempted to block Cloudflare’s IPs, they would end up impacting other crucial services, making the measure unfeasible.

Elon Musk and his team adopted this strategy to circumvent the limitations imposed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

In this way, the block that once seemed effective has now become a greater challenge for the providers, since actions against X could have broader consequences.

The system implemented by X also facilitates adaptation to new blocking attempts, especially through DNS addresses, one of the most common techniques.

The decision to use Cloudflare also reflects the measures that digital platforms are taking to adapt to legal and technical challenges around the world.

In Brazil, government websites, such as the gov.br portal, also use this solution to protect themselves from cyberattacks, demonstrating the importance of this infrastructure in the current digital landscape.

STF States That the Block on X, Formerly Twitter, Has Not Been Lifted

With this technology, X has resumed operations in Brazil, and many users are already able to access the social network again. However, a source from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) told Reuters that the block is still in effect, and the STF is investigating the information regarding the access of some users.

Elon Musk and his supporters view the judicial measure as a violation of freedom of expression, which intensifies a debate that is still far from being resolved.

The return of X to Brazil demonstrates that the platform is willing to use all possible tools to keep functioning, regardless of attempts to block it.

Now, it remains to be seen how authorities and providers will deal with this new scenario, as preventing access to the social network without impacting other vital services seems to be an increasingly complicated mission.

Blocking of X by Alexandre de Moraes

Elon Musk’s platform was blocked in Brazil at the end of last month by order of Alexandre de Moraes, a decision that was later confirmed by the First Panel of the STF. Both Musk and right-wing members interpreted this decision as a threat to freedom of expression.

Last week, Moraes also ordered the transfer of 18.35 million reais. These funds were blocked in accounts of the companies X and Starlink, owned by Musk, to the coffers of the Union as payment for fines for disregarding court orders.

These funds had been blocked to cover fines imposed on the X platform. The reason was repeated disobedience to court orders, such as blocking profiles and removing pages that spread fake news. Additionally, the platform failed to comply with the order to indicate a legal representative in Brazil.
