Let’s understand this story better.
Peru has practically chosen its new combat aircraft and is one step away from being the first in Latin America to operate 5th generation fighters. 1st Country In Latin America With 5th Generation Fighters?
This agreement will allow Peru to produce parts for the FA-50 Golden Eagle aircraft, and according to Peruvian specialized media, this is just the first step toward acquiring up to 24 of these jets for the Peruvian Air Force. The contract, which is expected to be signed by the end of the year, is valued at around 780 million dollars, an interesting amount considering the number and modernity of the aircraft involved.

The FA-50 Jets are supersonic and can fly at Mach 1.5, with seven weapon mounting points and the ability to carry about 4 tons externally. They are also equipped with an avionics suite that includes radar and electronic warfare equipment, making them quite modern.
F-16 Jets
However, as they are lightweight jets, they have their limitations. Therefore, in addition to the FA-50s, Peru is considering other aircraft, such as the F-16 jets, to replace its current Mirage 2000 and MiG-29.

Additionally, KAI offered Peru participation in the project of the KF-21 fighter, which is currently under development and already conducting several flights. This participation would open up for the Peruvian Air Force the opportunity for a potential acquisition of this futuristic aircraft, which promises to be a 5th generation option at more accessible costs.
So, if you thought Latin America was out of this technological race, it’s time to think again! Peru is ready to take off with its new fighters, and we will keep an eye on how this story unfolds.
