Euca Energy Receives License and Plans Investments of R$ 10 Billion and Creation of 2,000 Jobs in Mato Grosso
The economic project of Euca Energy, which foresees investments of nearly R$ 10 billion, in addition to two thousand direct job openings, received approval from the State Secretary of the Environment (Sema), and the delivery of the preliminary license for the installation of the pulp industry in the municipality of Alto Araguaia was officially announced this week by Governor Mauro Mendes.
“Without a doubt, the largest private enterprise currently underway in Brazil, a demonstration that investors are believing in Mato Grosso,” said Mendes.

The governor also highlighted the growth that the pulp industry will bring to the southern region of the state. “It will be a major development hub that will attract other types of companies that will add to this project. Once this factory starts being built, it will certainly bring a new perspective, changing the reality of this region, which is already so important and gains this new enterprise.”
This type of investment goes through the most complex process in the current environmental legislation, explains the Secretary of the Environment, Mauren Lazzaretti. “Various entities and society are heard. The project goes through analyses, public consultation, assessment by a multidisciplinary technical team, and only after that is the license actually delivered and granted to the entrepreneur.”
The president of Euca Energy, former senator Gilberto Goellner, explained that Alto Araguaia has the ideal conditions to host the enterprise due to energy, water, the confluence of two more states, and rail and road logistics.
The businessman mentioned the concern regarding environmental issues. “Today the need is to buy or lease 300 thousand hectares where we will plant 180 thousand hectares, aiming for an average utilization of 60% of this area. 40% will be left for conservation. Our project encompasses this concern for preservation. With this preliminary license, we are in a position to present ourselves to the international market and attract companies interested in the country, given that Brazil is the best place to produce eucalyptus and cellulose.”
The director of the Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso (Fiemt), Gustavo Oliveira, emphasized, “This investment of nearly R$ 10 billion will feed many other production chains, such as the forest base sector, energy, will demand a lot of logistics, and generate many job openings.”
The mayor of Alto Araguaia, Gustavo Melo, stressed the importance of the project for the region. “We are at the gateway to the state, situated in the Araguaia valley, in a privileged location, we have a railway. This enterprise aligns with the public and economic interests of our municipality and the region and for the state of Mato Grosso, it is a new economic matrix that emerges in the state. An investment of this size opens the eyes of investors to our state.”
