In São Paulo, an ethanol storage tank, with a capacity of 64 million liters, exploded this Saturday morning.

An ethanol storage tank, with a capacity of 64 million liters, exploded on the morning of Saturday, August 10 at the Ipê plant in Nova Independência, in the interior of São Paulo. No one was injured and activities at the unit were paralyzed.

The fire started around 9 am in the reservoir. According to the Fire Department, the tank has the capacity to store 64 million liters of ethanol.

The first information indicates that the explosion happened because of a failure in the lid of the tank.

In addition to the fire brigade at the plant itself, firefighters from Araçatuba (SP), Andradina (SP) and other cities in the region were called in to contain the flames.
