The 900 layoffs represent 4.5% of the workforce of the third-largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. The other 1,600 jobs that were cut are from employees who had voluntarily signed up for a severance plan proposed by Embraer from São José dos Campos.
The crisis had already caused uncertainty among workers in several sectors since the beginning of the pandemic. To try to avoid job cuts and prevent workers from losing their jobs, there was a meeting between union representatives and Embraer.

Coronavirus And Partnership Failure
To justify the layoffs, in addition to the lack of expectation for recovery in the air transportation sector in the short and medium term due to the new coronavirus, Embraer also claims the cancellation of the partnership with Boeing, which, to meet the separation of commercial aviation, spent R$ 485.5 million last year.
The Boeing is also facing the biggest crisis in its history due to the effects of the coronavirus and as a result of the suspension of operations with its main aircraft, the 737 MAX, after two aircraft of this model crashed, killing hundreds of people.
