It Is Hard to Imagine That, After Three Decades of Promises, Such an Anticipated Project Finally Came to Life. The Matinhos-Guaratuba Bridge, Measuring an Impressive 1,244 Meters in Length, Has Started to Take Shape and Promises to Not Only Alleviate Traffic on BR-277 but Also Boost the Local Economy with New Job Opportunities.
According to the latest report, the construction of the Guaratuba Bridge has already reached 11.12% completion and is strictly on schedule set by the Government of Paraná.
The consortium responsible for the project, Nova Ponte, has already started the most complex phase of the foundation of the cable-stayed section, one of the most remarkable features of this grandiose structure.
While most of the bridge is composed of precast concrete and steel beams and columns, the cable-stayed section requires a special technique, where steel cables are anchored to towers to support the deck and allow free navigation in Guaratuba Bay.

So far, the work includes the installation of nine of the 64 concrete piles that will support the 1,244-meter length of the bridge. These piles are true giant columns, measuring between 20 to 50 meters in length and weighing up to 470 tons.
The expectation is that by the end of 2024, 50 piles will be firmly anchored, ensuring the solidity needed for this monumental project.
With a task force of approximately 300 workers, and forecasts that this number may double during peak construction, the project is progressing consistently.
Unique Challenges and an Iconic Design
Engineer Larissa Vieira, who oversees the project for the Department of Highways of Paraná (DER-PR), highlighted that the cable-stayed section presents unique challenges due to the climatic and maritime conditions of the region.
According to her, “at this point, the piles are larger and the influence of tides and weather makes the work even more delicate.”
The structure will feature two imposing towers, to which the cables will be anchored to support the deck, providing a clear span of 160 meters for navigation.
This will allow vessels up to 17 meters in height to pass without the need to raise the bridge, avoiding any impact on maritime traffic.
The design chosen for the bridge is a reference in architecture and engineering, similar to other iconic bridges around the world, such as the Vasco da Gama Bridge in Lisbon and the Octávio Frias de Oliveira Bridge in São Paulo.
In addition to its functionality, the Matinhos-Guaratuba Bridge promises to be a new tourist attraction for Paraná, notable for its resistance to strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
Another point in favor of the project is the ease of maintenance, with cables that can be replaced without the need to dismantle significant parts of the structure.
Job Openings: Opportunities for Various Areas
The project schedule is being strictly followed, with a completion forecast in 24 months and a budget of R$ 386.9 million.
The bridge will feature two lanes in each direction, as well as safety lanes, a bike path, and protective barriers, meeting the highest standards of safety and quality.
The progress of the work is monitored monthly by the DER/PR and accompanied by organizations such as the Water and Land Institute (IAT) to ensure that all environmental regulations are respected.
Alongside the construction, the project is generating new job opportunities, essential for the advancement of the project.
According to the latest information, the Guaratuba Worker Agency is recruiting professionals for various positions, such as electricians, heavy vehicle drivers, and specialized equipment operators.
Those interested in applying should submit their résumés directly to the agency or contact by phone for more details.
Environmental Preservation
According to the consortium responsible for the bridge, the impact of the project goes beyond employment, as construction also has the responsibility to monitor and preserve the ecosystem of the region.
Ensuring the balance of land and aquatic fauna, as well as the flora of Guaratuba Bay, is a priority to guarantee that the construction does not harm the environment.
Therefore, it is evident that, with so many challenging and innovative aspects, the Matinhos-Guaratuba Bridge is not just an infrastructure project; it is a historical landmark that is transforming the landscape of Paraná and opening new doors for regional development.
But the big question remains: will this bridge finally fulfill the promises of alleviating traffic and boosting local development, or will it be just another one of those projects that fall short of expectations?
