How to Choose Used Cars: Essential Tips, Precautions Before Buying, and Reliable Sites for Negotiating
The purchase of used cars is an increasingly common alternative for those looking to save money without compromising on quality.
However, for the negotiation to be safe and advantageous, it is necessary to adopt some precautions before closing the deal.
From assessing the documentation to choosing reliable sites to make the purchase, every detail makes a difference to avoid unpleasant surprises.
Why Choose Used Cars?
Used cars have become attractive for several reasons: more accessible prices, lower depreciation compared to brand new models, and a variety of options available in the market.
Additionally, many used vehicles still have low mileage and are in good condition, allowing consumers to find real opportunities.
Essential Precautions Before Buying
Buying used cars requires extra attention. One of the first steps is to verify the vehicle’s provenance.
Requesting the car’s history from Detran or specialized websites helps identify potential issues, such as open fines, judicial restrictions, or accident records.
Another crucial point is the mechanical inspection. Taking the vehicle to a trusted mechanic ensures a detailed analysis of items such as engine, suspension, brakes, and electrical systems.
This step is essential to avoid unexpected expenses after the purchase.
Moreover, it is fundamental to check the documentation.
The buyer should analyze the CRLV (Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate) and the DUT (Single Transfer Document) to ensure there are no pending issues. Neglecting this verification can result in headaches in the future.
What to Observe in the Car’s Condition?
When evaluating used cars, some details cannot go unnoticed. The mileage is one of the main indicators of wear but should be analyzed alongside the overall condition of the vehicle.
Cars with low mileage but poor maintenance may present more problems than high-mileage vehicles that have received regular upkeep.
The bodywork also deserves attention. Dents, scratches, and differences in paint color may indicate poorly executed repairs or even previous accidents.
Inside, it is important to observe the condition of the seats, dashboard, and steering wheel, which can reveal signs of misuse.
Negotiation and Test Drive
Another essential step in buying used cars is the test drive. This experience allows evaluating the comfort, performance, and handling of the vehicle.
Additionally, it helps identify strange noises and potential operational failures.
In the negotiation, research the Fipe table to have a fair price basis. This comparison avoids paying more than the market value and provides more security during the transaction.
Where to Buy Used Cars Online?
With the digitization of the automotive market, used cars can be found on various online platforms. Some of the main sites for buying and selling vehicles are:
- OLX: a very popular platform, with a wide variety of vehicles advertised by dealerships and individuals.
- Webmotors: one of the largest automotive classifieds portals in Brazil, with advanced filters that facilitate searches.
- iCarros: offers verified ads and the possibility to simulate financing.
- Mercado Livre: features listings of cars from all over the country and seller rating systems.
When using these sites, it is important to exercise caution. Always be wary of prices that are significantly below the market and prefer to carry out transactions in safe, in-person locations.
Safety First
Buying used cars can be an excellent decision, but it requires care, research, and patience.
Assessing the vehicle’s provenance, checking documentation, conducting mechanical inspections, and choosing reliable platforms are essential measures to ensure a good deal.
This way, consumers can combine economy and safety, taking advantage of the benefits of acquiring a quality automobile at a more accessible price.
