Job vacancies tend to have very high competition. However, for those in the technology field, there is a different scenario: the ratio is one professional to two vacancies, putting companies in competition for talent. This survey was conducted by Revelo, the leading recruitment startup in technology for Latin America, which evaluated 45,000 open job positions.

“This analysis indicates a difficulty for companies in finding qualified professionals to fill these gaps and puts companies in a sort of race to see who can secure the best professional,” says Lachlan de Crespigny, co-founder of Revelo.

Low Competition Among Job Vacancies Favors Salary Increases for Candidates

According to the executive, this low competition among candidates, while favoring salary increases – a rise of 55% in March 2021, hinders talent retention within companies.

Instead of specialists needing to stand out, it’s the companies’ turn to provide reasons for being chosen. “We are seeing more and more companies engaged in offering human management, with flexibility in working hours and location.

Benefit packages are important. In addition to health insurance and meal vouchers, differentials such as career plans and partnerships with gyms and incentives for training carry significant weight in decision-making,” explains Crespigny.

For candidates, it is still necessary to have more skills and competencies, referred to as soft skills, in addition to being a specialist and identifying with the company’s values, to remain better positioned during the selection process. Hard skills, which are the technical skills like programming languages knowledge, knowledge of other languages, etc., are also differentiators that increase competitiveness.

“To keep up with the constant transformations in the sector, candidates need to invest in their careers. Training courses are highly rated and can open a range of job opportunities. Skills such as English proficiency, technical knowledge applied in their field, and being aware of news and innovations in the sector are essential,” concludes Lachlan.
