New Rule Organizes The Boardwalk, Prevents Tied Sales And Defines Clear Limits For Vendors.

Santos included in municipal law the prohibition of a minimum consumption for the use of chairs and beach umbrellas on the beach.

The measure affects snack and pastry carts that operate on the sand.

Additionally, maximum limits for equipment per cart were defined.

What Happened And Why It Matters

The city hall updated the decree 10.051/2023 on December 12.

The goal was to bring more clarity to the work of 60 vendors operating on the boardwalk.

The change aims for safety, organization, and respect for the consumer.

Limits For Chairs And Beach Umbrellas

Each cart can offer up to 15 beach umbrellas and 60 chairs.

The number was set to accommodate beachgoers without obstructing pathways.

The rule applies exclusively to snack and pastry carts.

Prohibition For Other Categories

For other types of vendors, such as beverage sellers, the provision of tables and chairs remains prohibited.

The improper use of chairs or tables from other carts is treated as a serious infraction.

The penalty may include fines and seizure of materials.

Minimum Consumption And Consumer Rights

The requirement for minimum consumption is considered tied sales.

This practice has been prohibited by the Consumer Protection Code since 1991.

Consumers who feel harmed can seek assistance from Procon.

Situation In Other Beach Towns

In Ilhabela, the Municipal Code of Conduct also prohibits minimum consumption for tables and chairs on the sand.

In Guarujá, inspections follow a similar model to Praia Grande, under the responsibility of the local Procon.

Rules vary, but consumer protection has been gaining traction.

Santos reinforced beach organization with clearer rules for vendors.

For those who frequent the boardwalk, the change reduces abuses and brings more predictability in the summer.

O plural de guarda-sol é guarda-sóis, no caso do texto, faltou o hífen…
