Platform details distribution of mining activity by region, type of process and exploration phase; tool can help in territorial planning and monitoring of mining management
The National Mining Agency (ANM) has taken an important step towards strengthening transparency and access to information in the Brazilian mining sector. The Brazilian Mining Distribution Dashboard was launched, an interactive platform developed by the Mineral Geoinformation Coordination (COGEO), which provides georeferenced data on mining activity throughout the country.
According to an official statement published on the Gov.br portal, the panel allows the general public, researchers and industry agents consult detailed information about ongoing mining processes, such as research authorizations, mines in operation, occupied areas and their distribution by states and regions of Brazil.
Open data and filters for regionalized consultation
The ANM panel offers several filters that facilitate navigation by type of process, exploration phase, federative unit and mineral substance. With these options, it is possible to identify, for example, which states concentrate the most requests for mineral research or active mining.

The tool also shows the evolution of processes over the years, which allows a temporal analysis of mining in Brazil. This database is constantly updated and is added to the Mining Geographic Information System (SIGMINE), already maintained by ANM.
Support for territorial planning and public policies
According to ANM's general director, Mauro Sousa, the panel not only increases the transparency of mining activity, but also serves as support for urban and regional planning. "The possibility of crossing different layers of information expand the shapes consultation and generates greater knowledge about the use of Brazilian territory”, highlighted the manager in an interview with Geocracia.
This data can be used by city governments, environmental agencies, investors and civil society entities to prepare diagnoses and monitor the growth of mining activity in a sustainable manner.
Tool contributes to more transparency
With this launch, ANM reinforces its commitment to modernizing information systems and democratizing public data. The dashboard allows for quick and educational consultations, helping more people understand how mining impacts different regions of the country and what the trends in mineral exploration are.
The use of geoinformation technologies in mining is a growing trend in countries seeking to align extractive activity with good governance practices and environmental responsibility. The Brazilian initiative, according to the Gov.br portal, is aligned with the principles of open government and accessible data.
