President Lula stated this Monday, during an official visit to Mozambique celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the African country’s independence and its diplomatic relations with Brazil, that BNDES is preparing a new cycle of financing for projects by Brazilian contractors in Africa.
The announcement was made alongside Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, in a moment that highlighted bilateral cooperation and prospects for structural investments.
Infrastructure Gaps and Opportunities
Lula stated that Mozambique still has gaps in infrastructure, emphasizing that the country’s economic growth depends on the construction of ports, roads, power generation plants, and electricity transmission lines.

However, he stated that it is necessary to overcome a limitation that he considers crucial. He declared that no major country can export services without providing credit support, pointing out that this is an essential condition to enable contracts and give competitiveness to national companies.
Recovery of Financing Capacity
Lula stated that the government is working for BNDES to recover its capacity to finance the internationalization of Brazilian companies. The proposal is to resume the support model for projects abroad, in line with the strategy to increase Brazil’s presence in African markets and strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
