Recycling plant could reach production of 250 million plastic packages annually for Brmy love
As a global leader in the production of biopolymers on an industrial scale, Braskem has taken a big step towards its goal of expanding its range of products from plastic recycling, in order to reach 1 million tons of recycled materials by the year 2030 .
This Braskem goal refers to the inauguration of the first recycling in Indaiatuba (SP), as a result of a partnership between Braskem and Valoren, a company that develops technology and manages waste for conversion into recycled products.
Braskem's new factory, with an investment of 67 million reais, was inaugurated in March of this year, with a construction area of 9.000 square meters and more than 150 employees.

Braskem's new unit will be able to modify, annually, 250 million plastic packages, after consumption, made of polyethylene and polypropylene, substances present in cleaning materials, personal hygiene, cosmetics and food, into 14 thousand tons of resin post-consumer recycled with high quality.
In the new unit, the resins will be reused as raw material by the industry and will reach the consumer through new products, such as furniture, secondary packaging, gardening and painting items, etc.
Next, Braskem's vice president for Olefins and Polyolefins in South America explains the details of the new unit and comments on Braskem's commitments to the best sustainability practices and the environment.
Plastic products that the unit will recycle
The recycling plant of Indaiatuba, originated from the partnership of Braskem with Valoren, it mainly transforms domestic plastic waste, such as food packaging, cleaning material, personal hygiene products and cosmetics.
Technology of the new unit in the recycling process
The technological aspect was one of the great challenges of the new project. The recycling line consists of a modular complex that integrates the different stages and is developed using Braskem's own technology. The plastic waste placed at the beginning of the production line is ground, washed and homogenized.
The layout of the plastics recycling project is exclusive and the machines have the most advanced technology in Europe, complemented by national equipment.
Among the main differentials of the first recycling plant are the high-performance washing lines with optical sensors for removing contaminants by color and type of material, the homogenization silos, the high-precision additives and the input and output dosing systems. odor elimination and high-performance polymer filtration, helping to improve the quality of the resulting plastic.
“What's more, couldn't we build a recycling plant for plastic without considering, in addition to the safety of individuals, the best sustainability practices in its infrastructure. Considering these aspects, we carry out the treatment of recirculation water, to optimize water and energy resources”.
Braskem's goals with the new plastic recycling unit
Braskem's goal, validated by the board of directors, is to reach 1 million tons of recycled products by 2030. In addition to this goal, Braskem also has the ambition to be recognized worldwide as an industry that strengthens the value cycle of recycling in the regions where it operates and be a leader in recycling throughout the Americas.
To meet the goals, Braskem intends to operate through partnerships with other companies to strengthen recycling, as well as educate and raise awareness in society about the proper disposal of plastics, conscious consumption and also about the importance of the recycling process.
The inauguration of Braskem's new plastic recycling unit is one of the company's many actions to meet the targets, which will be announced in the coming months of 2022.
