Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) stated this Friday (12) that the United States could send F-35 fighters and warships to Brazil in case of institutional breakdown.
The statement was made to the website Metrópoles shortly after the Supreme Federal Court (STF) sentenced former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to 27 years and 3 months in prison for attempted coup d’état.

“Churchill said you could choose between dishonor and war. Chamberlain chose dishonor, and then came war. I do not want dishonor,” stated Eduardo.
Relations with the United States
The parliamentarian mentioned remarks from the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, who stated that President Donald Trump is willing to adopt economic or military measures to defend freedom of expression globally.
For Eduardo, this willingness includes Brazil. “You can’t fix that anymore with diplomatic remedies like sanctions,” he said, commenting that economic measures are already being applied by the United States.
He cited the revocation of visas for Brazilian officials and the imposition of 50% tariffs on products from Brazil, presented as examples of political pressure.
Threats Against Moraes
On September 7, during demonstrations in Curitiba and Porto Alegre, Eduardo published a video in which he directly mentioned Minister Alexandre de Moraes and his family.
“Moraes, you, your wife, and after her, your children, I will go after each one of you,” he said in the recording broadcasted on his official account on X (formerly Twitter).
In the caption, the deputy wrote that he may have “exceeded” himself, but justified his tone: “Only an aggressive man can be peaceful; otherwise, the only option is to be a lamb.”
Prolonged Absence from the Country
Eduardo Bolsonaro has been in the United States since February 2025.
He stated that he only intends to return if his father is released and if Minister Alexandre de Moraes is impeached.
However, the parliamentarian faces scrutiny in the Chamber of Deputies due to the number of absences recorded.
The rules provide for possible sanctions or even loss of mandate in situations of unjustified absence.
Marco Rubio and the Itamaraty’s Response
The conviction of Jair Bolsonaro resonated in the United States. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the STF’s decisions represent “political persecution” and that the United States “will respond appropriately to this witch hunt.”
The Itamaraty responded in an official note published on X.
“Threats like the one made today by the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in a statement attacking Brazilian authority and ignoring the facts and evidence in the case will not intimidate Brazilian democracy,” the ministry stated.
Diplomatic Impacts
Eduardo’s statements and the remarks from U.S. authorities have heightened diplomatic tension.
Brazil and the United States have a historical partnership relationship, but recent measures, such as the application of tariffs and the adoption of sanctions under the Magnitsky Act, have increased the atmosphere of instability.
Lawyers for Jair Bolsonaro deemed the sentence “excessive” and announced appeals.
Eduardo has stated that he will continue to push for new sanctions against Brazilian authorities, mentioning the possibility of extending the offensive to Europe as well.
