The state will see a historic transformation in its road network! With widening, a 2,5 km tunnel and 16 bridges, BR-282 is set to revolutionize transportation in the region.

Get ready for a historic transformation into one of the main highways of Santa Catarina! BR-282, which connects important cities in the state, will be expanded in a mega-project that promises to impact all regional logistics.

This work, which includes everything from the duplication of long stretches to the construction of a tunnel and several bridges, was recently announced after the project was approved by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT).

After the contracts are signed, the highway connecting Lages to Palhoรงa will undergo significant remodeling, involving multiple aspects of infrastructure.

According to DNIT, the duplication will cover approximately 178 kilometers, adding the construction of 4,3 kilometers of side roads and 37 kilometers of intersection loops to facilitate the flow of vehicles.

The region is already facing increasing traffic congestion, especially in the stretch between Serra and Greater Florianรณpolis, which makes this modernization urgent.

The expansion of BR-282 between Lages and Palhoรงa was structured in eight lots, each with varying execution periods between 11 and 18 months.

The total investment in engineering projects amounts to R $ million 21,5, a value that does not yet include the cost of the execution works, according to the notice.

Batching allows work to happen in a staggered manner, minimizing the impact on drivers throughout the process.

According to DNIT, the current planning foresees interventions that adapt to the flow of the highway, but the population must still be prepared for some changes in traffic.

In addition to duplication, the project includes a 2,5 kilometer tunnel in a variant in the Alto da Boa Vista region, between Rancho Queimado and Alfredo Wagner.

This tunnel, essential to guarantee safety and fluidity on the route, will be a milestone in the engineering of BR-282.

Another highlight is the 16 new bridges and 54 viaducts planned, essential to facilitate logistical flow and safety at intersections.

Strategic importance of BR-282

According to DNIT, BR-282 is an essential logistics corridor for the state, facilitating the connection between BR-101 and BR-116.

This axis is vital not only for local traffic, but also for the movement of goods that cross Santa Catarina.

The stretch is close to saturation, especially around Greater Florianรณpolis, where the intense flow of vehicles is a constant reality.

This growth in traffic is one of the main factors that motivated the decision to expand.

In logistical terms, the BR-282 highway plays a strategic role, allowing the flow of products and ensuring fluidity between the inland regions and the Santa Catarina coast.

This expansion should significantly reduce travel time., while increasing traffic capacity and minimizing the risks associated with single lane highways, especially in cargo transport.

Expectations and challenges

After the engineering projects are completed, the next step will be to seek sources of financing to carry out the work.

Although the cost of the engineering projects has been stipulated, the total value of the work, including the duplication and construction of the new sections, still depends on obtaining resources, which may involve both the federal government and partnerships with private entities.

Experts believe that the changes will be beneficial in the long term, but it is important to consider the challenges that may arise, both in terms of environmental impact and adaptations to traffic during implementation.

According to the Infrastructure Secretariat, environmental adaptations, such as the preservation of nearby areas and noise pollution control, are among the priorities to minimize the impact of the work on the environment.

Regional development and job creation

In addition to easing traffic, this duplication and new constructions should boost the construction sector and generate employment opportunities in the region.

Infrastructure works, which include the construction and maintenance of bridges and viaducts, require specialized labor, creating direct and indirect jobs for the local population.

This can have a significant economic impact, benefiting businesses in the region and contributing to local development.

The deadline for all lots to be in operation has not yet been announced, but contracts should start to be signed in the coming months, indicating that the first phase of the project should not take long to begin.

The expectation is that, at the end of the works, the flow of vehicles between the coast and the interior of Santa Catarina will be much safer and faster, in addition to providing a more robust infrastructure to support the growth expected for the coming years.

In prehistoric Brazil, people still talk about doubling lanes when they should already be talking about 4 lanes, for new highways... what a backward people!

BRs 282 and 470 deserve to be completely widened, along all their lengths. BR 470 has long been transformed into a corridor for containers, cold storage and cargo trucks heading to the ports on the coast. It is insane to travel by car among 8 or 10 trucks stuck together along the entire road.

I agree. BR 470 in RS deserves a lot of attention. It is noticeable that it has a single lane, without a shoulder for most of its length, in addition to heavy traffic and no signage. If you go from Nova Prata to Andrรฉ da Rocha, the paving is in good condition. After Andrรฉ da Rocha to Lagoa Vermelha, there are more than 40 km of dirt road, and surprisingly, in the navigation systems it is listed as paved. There is zero infrastructure on this route.
