Strategic Partnership: Brazilian Navy and United Arab Emirates Sign Agreement to Invest R$ 670 Million in the Development of the Powerful Mansup Missile, with a Range of 200 Km, Equipping the Tamandaré Class
The Brazilian Navy took an important step in military technology development by signing a strategic agreement with the EDGE Group in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this Tuesday. This agreement aims to complete the development of the Brazilian missile Mansup, which will have a range of up to 70 kilometers, in addition to its extended version, the Mansup-ER, capable of hitting targets up to 200 kilometers away.
The main objective is to deliver the first units of this missile by 2025. The project is a collaboration between Brazil and Saudi Arabia, focused on enhancing the defense capabilities of both countries.

Agreement Between the Brazilian Navy and the EDGE Group
This agreement represents a milestone, as it establishes the first partnership where Brazil shares the intellectual property of a weapon project with a foreign country.

With a length of 121 meters and four rigid sails of 36 meters that automatically rotate to capture the wind, Canopée is the world’s first hybrid industrial cargo ship powered by wind, used to transport rockets and reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% on transoceanic routes.
The Brazilian Navy is responsible for the missile project, while the EDGE Group, with an investment of US$ 120 million, will be responsible for financing and part of the technological development.
The EDGE Group, which acquired 50% of the Brazilian company SIATT in 2023, has already participated in tests of the Mansup, which reaches up to 70 kilometers, with five successful launches.
The project is of utmost importance for the Brazilian Navy, as it ensures the development of the missile in time to equip the new Tamandaré-class frigates, the first of which is expected to enter service in 2025.
The Tamandaré will be the first of four frigates being built in Brazil, in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, and will have the Mansup as part of its weapon systems.
Brazilian Missile Mansup and Its Extended Version
The agreement establishes that the EDGE Group and SIATT will provide the necessary resources to ensure the missile is delivered on time and also to allow the technology and technical data of the Brazilian missile Mansup to be used in the development of the Mansup-ER.
In total, US$ 20 million will be invested in completing the standard version, and US$ 100 million in the development of the long-range version.
Another important point of the agreement is the future sublicense for the EDGE Group to produce and market the Mansup-ER. While EDGE will own the intellectual property of the new developed components, the Brazilian Navy will retain rights to the already developed parts of the Mansup that will be used in the ER version. This technology sharing opens doors for future joint projects.
Rodrigo Torres, financial director of the EDGE Group, highlighted the importance of collaboration between Brazil and the United Arab Emirates, mentioning the benefits for the defense sectors of both countries and the potential for job generation and industrial growth.
The partnership, he said, goes beyond missile development, promoting technological innovation in various sectors.

Saudi Arabia and Strengthening the Partnership with Brazil
The production of the missiles will be carried out at the SIATT facilities in São Paulo. The company has already signed contracts for the delivery of missiles for both the Brazilian Navy and the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates, the latter valued at approximately € 400 million.
In addition to participating in the modernization of the Angolan Navy, the EDGE Group is also involved in a € 1 billion project that includes the construction of corvettes and interceptor boats, and Angola is expected to become one of the customers of the Mansup.
The Brazilian missile Mansup and its ER version also have considerable export potential for countries in South America, such as Chile, Ecuador, and Peru, as well as customers in Africa and Asia, including Egypt, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
The ER version, with greater range, will be up to 30% cheaper than the French Exocet missile, its main competitor in the international market.
In addition to the Mansup, the EDGE Group and SIATT plan to develop a Tactical Cruise Missile (MTC) with a range of 300 kilometers, using the knowledge gained in the development of the Mansup.
The estimate is that this project will take two years, with an investment of US$ 60 million. The Brazilian Army is also developing a similar weapon in partnership with Avibras, which is facing financial difficulties, with debts approaching R$ 1 billion.
This agreement with the Saudi Arabia, through the EDGE Group, not only strengthens the capabilities of the Brazilian Navy but also positions the country strategically in the global arms market, consolidating the Brazilian missile Mansup as one of the leading innovations of the defense industry.
