Cruz das Almas Prepares to Welcome a New Factory That Promises to Boost the Local Economy, Expand Job Creation, and Attract New Investments to the Recôncavo Region.

Cruz das Almas, in the Recôncavo region, a municipality with approximately 60,000 inhabitants, has been chosen by the MK Group, owner of the Mondial and AIWA brands, to receive a new factory for home appliances.

The project foresees an initial investment of R$ 45.7 million and the creation of up to 1,400 direct jobs, which will be opened gradually as the implementation stages progress.

The announcement was formalized after the signing of a letter of intent between the company and the Cruz das Almas City Hall.

The document establishes the foundations of the partnership, including the granting of public land for the construction of the industrial unit and the provision of municipal tax incentives.

The factory will be part of the group’s expansion and productive decentralization plan, focusing on the Northeast region, which is considered strategic for the company’s growth in the coming years.

Although the title indicates “a city of 60,000 inhabitants,” the most recent figures show that the local population has already surpassed this mark.

The 2022 Census recorded 60,348 residents, while IBGE estimates suggest just over 63,000 inhabitants by 2025, indicating continuous demographic growth and an expanding labor market in the region.

Factory in DICA 2 and Strategic Access via BR-101

The new unit will be installed in the Cruz das Almas Industrial District 2 (DICA 2), on a 200,000 square meter plot of land granted by the municipality.

The area is located along the BR-101, a road corridor that connects the Recôncavo to other economic hubs in the state and neighboring regions.

The new Mondial factory in Cruz das Almas will have an investment of R$ 45.7 million and will create up to 1,400 jobs, boosting the local economy.

This location facilitates the distribution of production and the supply of inputs.

According to the presented timeline, construction is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2025, with the first phase to be completed by the end of 2026.

In the initial stage, the plant will focus on the production of electric ovens and air coolers, products that Mondial already manufactures and that have growing demand in the Northeast.

The forecast is to produce around 1.5 million units in the first year of operation, with the possibility of expanding capacity as new lines are incorporated.

In addition to functioning as a factory, the Cruz das Almas unit will also operate as a distribution center for the region.

The strategy aims to reduce logistics costs and shorten delivery times in the Northeast market.

MK Group Expansion and Redirecting Investments

The protocol signed with the city hall sets an initial investment of R$ 45.7 million in the new factory.

In subsequent communications, the MK Group began to mention a package of up to R$ 70.7 million intended for the industrial unit, within a total investment of R$ 116.7 million that includes the construction of a new distribution center in another municipality in Bahia.

The group already has factories in Conceição do Jacuípe (BA), Manaus (AM), and Araçariguama (SP), in addition to administrative structures in Barueri (SP) and offices in China.

The new plant in Cruz das Almas will be the company’s third factory in Bahia, strengthening the state as a logistical and productive hub for the company.

The choice of the municipality came after a reevaluation of previous plans.

Initially, the group intended to expand production in Conceição do Jacuípe, but reported having reached the limits of factors like energy, logistics, and, mainly, skilled labor.

The new Mondial factory in Cruz das Almas will have an investment of R$ 45.7 million and will create up to 1,400 jobs, boosting the local economy.

As a result, the R$ 70.7 million investment was redirected to Cruz das Almas, considered more suitable for the new expansion cycle.

The MK Group recorded revenue of R$ 6.3 billion in 2023 and projects revenues between R$ 8 billion and R$ 8.5 billion in 2024, consolidating the need to expand its industrial structure.

Jobs, Professional Training, and Impact on the Recôncavo

The expectation is that the factory will create around 700 direct job openings in the initial phase, reaching 1,400 job positions as the project progresses and installed capacity increases.

The opportunities will encompass operational, technical, administrative, and management functions, with demand for qualified professionals in areas such as production, logistics, maintenance, and quality.

Cruz das Almas is home to technical and higher education institutions, such as the Federal University of the Recôncavo of Bahia (UFRB), which increases the supply of skilled labor.

This educational structure is considered one of the factors that can favor the internalization of industrial investments in the region.

For the municipal management, the expected impact goes beyond direct job openings.

The arrival of industry tends to stimulate local productive chains, such as transportation, food, outsourced services, and commerce.

The mayor Ednaldo Ribeiro stated that “the arrival of Mondial represents a historical milestone for Cruz das Almas. It is a giant step towards the economic development of our municipality. We are talking about job creation, more income circulating in the city, and real opportunities for our youth and for those who have always dreamed of dignified work close to home.”

Tax Incentives and Competition for New Ventures

To enable the project, the Cruz das Almas City Hall granted exemption from IPTU on the urban area designated for the venture, in addition to granting the land in DICA 2.

According to the municipal administration, the incentive policy is part of a broader strategy to attract industries, focused on job creation and increasing the tax base in the medium and long term.

Negotiations with the MK Group occurred amidst a competition between municipalities for large industrial projects, especially in states seeking to decentralize their economies.

In Mondial’s case, factors such as logistics, availability of land and infrastructure, along with the supply of labor and public services, influenced the decision.

The establishment of the new factory tends to reposition Cruz das Almas on the economic map of the Recôncavo, which historically stands out for agriculture, services, and activities linked to education and agricultural research.

With the home appliance industry, the municipality will compete for investments in sectors of higher technological intensity and capital.
