Bill Gates Owns Land That Provides Potatoes to McDonald’s — and Also Has a Card That Gives Free Meals Worldwide
Few people realize that Bill Gates, known for being the founder of Microsoft and one of the world’s greatest philanthropists, also has a stake in the cultivation of a popular food: McDonald’s french fries.
With an estimated fortune of over US$ 100 billion, Gates has expanded his investments into agriculture.
Currently, he owns over 275,000 acres of land in the United States, equivalent to about 113,000 hectares.

No one imagined it, but a mixture of sawdust with a mineral that fights fires surprises scientists with a result that changes the course of fire-resistant construction.
This land is spread across 18 states and is used to grow various foods, such as soybeans in Nebraska and carrots in Florida.
Potatoes and Fast Food
Among these properties, one of the best-known is 100 Circle Farms, located in the state of Washington. The region is ideal for potato cultivation, and part of the farm’s production goes directly to McDonald’s restaurants.
The fast-food chain sources from various suppliers, but the link between Gates and McDonald’s has become symbolic. The billionaire, in addition to producing potatoes, also owns a McGold Card.
Exclusive Gold Card From McDonald’s
The McGold Card is a rare privilege, offered only to a select few public figures. It guarantees free meals at McDonald’s. Among the few who possess this card are Warren Buffett and actor Rob Lowe.
In Buffett’s case, the use is restricted to the city of Omaha, where he lives. Gates’ card, on the other hand, has global reach: it can be used at any McDonald’s location worldwide.
Why Invest in Land?
Gates claims that his motivation for investing in agricultural land is purely financial. In an online conversation on Reddit, he explained that it is neither an environmental project nor a climate-related strategy.
According to him, land is an essential and safe resource, especially in a world that needs to feed a growing population. Therefore, he believes that the investment is long-term and low-risk.
Debate on Land Concentration
Despite this, the presence of large investors in the sector raises questions. Critics point out that this movement may hinder access for small producers and young farmers to land.
Today, about 40% of agricultural land in the U.S. is owned by people over 65 years old. This suggests that a generational transition is nearing, but the concentration in the hands of billionaires could complicate the scenario.
Gates’ properties are managed by specialized companies, with a diverse cultivation of potatoes, corn, cotton, onions, and other crops.
