Automaker highlights advances in clean technologies such as biomethane during the G20 in Foz do Iguaçu
During the G20 in Foz do Iguacu, Toyota revealed its latest developments in clean technologies with the launch of two innovative prototypes that promise to significantly reduce pollutant emissions. The Japanese automaker presented the New Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex and a version of Hilux powered by biomethane, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and the transition to cleaner mobility and efficient, according to the Notícias Automotivas website.
These new models are aligned with the global decarbonization efforts, offering alternatives that combine biofuels e electrification, key factors for reducing environmental impacts caused by the automotive sector.
Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex: the evolution of electrification
The big highlight was the New Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex, a plug-in hybrid that represents the new generation of the Japanese liftback. With advanced technology, the vehicle not only uses ethanol, a fuel widely used in Brazil, but can also be charged externally, thanks to its lithium-ion battery.. This flex hybrid system allows the vehicle to use both electricity and biofuels, maximizing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

rafael chang, CEO of Toyota for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted the importance of continuous innovation in the search for more sustainable mobility solutions:
“Toyota’s trajectory is marked by its pioneering spirit and evolution in the development of new technologies. We were pioneers in the launch of hybrids and flex hybrids, in full alignment with the challenges of decarbonization”, Chang said.
He also highlighted that, by using the Brazilian experience with biofuels, Toyota is in a position to contribute significantly for the energy transition, offering technologies that can have positive impacts on both the environment and society.
Biomethane-powered Hilux: clean and renewable energy
Another highlight of the event was the Hilux powered by biomethane, an innovation that brings the use of a renewable and less polluting fuel. The biomethane is produced from biogas, which can be generated from various sources of organic waste, such as sugar cane, a resource widely available in Brazil. With this system, the Hilux becomes a promising alternative for the rural sector, especially in regions that produce biogas in biodigesters or large plants.
Biomethane offers a sustainable solution for fuel production in the country, complementing the ethanol production cycle and providing a more efficient and ecological energy matrix. With this technology, Toyota hopes to strengthen the use of renewable fuels and promote a cleaner and more competitive industry.
What will be the price of the Prius? My dream purchase.
So, is this Prius coming to Brazil? Until today, it was said that it wouldn't come. If it does, it will be my next Prius, for sure. The best car I've ever had (I have the fourth generation today). I get, on average, 21km/l. A spectacular car.
I traded my old Corolla for a BYD Dolphin. I don't regret it! With the Dolphin, I can do 400 km for “no liter of fuel”. Just plug it in and enjoy life! Never again Toyota!
I have had the new Prius since February in Portugal. Excellent car. It cost me 46000 Euros. I charge it every day. It has a range of 70 km on electric. Toyota is on another level.
