Automaker Highlights Advances in Clean Technologies Such as Biogas During G20 in Foz do Iguaçu
During the G20 in Foz do Iguaçu, Toyota unveiled its latest developments in clean technologies with the launch of two innovative prototypes that promise to significantly reduce pollutant emissions. The Japanese automaker presented the New Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex and a version of the Hilux powered by biogas, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and the transition to cleaner and efficient mobility, according to the website Notícias Automotivas.
These new models are aligned with global decarbonization efforts, offering alternatives that combine biofuels and electrification, key factors for reducing environmental impacts caused by the automotive sector.
Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex: The Evolution of Electrification
The standout was the New Prius Plug-In Hybrid Flex, a plug-in hybrid that represents the new generation of the Japanese liftback. With advanced technology, the vehicle not only uses ethanol, a fuel widely used in Brazil, but it can also be charged externally, thanks to its lithium-ion battery. This flex hybrid system allows the vehicle to use both electricity and biofuels, maximizing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

While many focus only on batteries, Toyota is heavily investing in electric trucks with third-generation fuel cells and has signed an agreement with Isuzu for the mass production of a light model expected to arrive in 2027.

Rafael Chang, CEO of Toyota for Latin America and the Caribbean, emphasized the importance of continuous innovation in the search for more sustainable mobility solutions:
“Toyota’s journey is marked by its pioneering spirit and evolution in the development of new technologies. We were pioneers in launching hybrids and flex hybrids, fully aligned with the challenges of decarbonization”, said Chang.
He also highlighted that by leveraging the Brazilian experience with biofuels, Toyota is in a position to significantly contribute to the energy transition, offering technologies that can have positive impacts on both the environment and society.
Hilux Powered by Biogas: Clean and Renewable Energy
Another highlight of the event was the Hilux powered by biogas, an innovation that uses a renewable and less polluting fuel. Biogas is produced from organic waste, such as sugarcane, a resource widely available in Brazil. With this system, the Hilux becomes a promising alternative for the rural sector, especially in regions that produce biogas in biodigesters or large plants.

Biogas provides a sustainable solution for fuel production in the country, complementing the production cycle of ethanol and providing a more efficient and ecological energy matrix. With this technology, Toyota hopes to strengthen the use of renewable fuels and promote a cleaner and more competitive industry.

Não me arrependo! Com o Dolphin, faço 400 km por “nenhum litro de combustível”. Só ligar na tomada e curtir a vida! Toyota nunca mais!
Tenho o novo Prius desde fevereiro em Portugal. Excelente carro. Custou-me 46000Eur . Carrego todo dia . Autonomia de 70km no elétrico. Toyota é outro nível.
Qual será o preço do Prius? Meu sonho de consumo.
