Learn How to Request the New ID Card Through the Post Office, in Which States This is Already Allowed, What the Deadline is, and Which Documents Are Required for Home Delivery.

The new ID card — officially the National Identity Card (CIN) — can now be sent to your address via the Post Office, depending on the state you live in.

Those who assist in issuing the new identity still collect biometric data in person but have the option to receive the document at home, avoiding trips to the service points.

States like São Paulo and Minas Gerais have already adopted this model, and the shipment is tracked and integrated with the Federal Government’s system. This makes life easier for citizens and reduces the queues.

What is the New ID Card?

The new ID card (CIN) is a national identity card that uses the CPF as its unique number, unifying state registrations.

The document can be issued in both physical and digital versions.

Additionally, it has a QR Code for authenticity verification and an MRZ code (like passports), enhancing security.

How Postal Delivery Works

To request the new ID card with delivery through the Post Office, you must first attend an in-person appointment for document collection, photo, signature, and biometrics.

At the time of the request, the citizen can opt for home delivery, and if approved, the ID card is sent to the registered address via the Post Office.

Delivery tracking can be done through a tracking code provided by the Post Office or by government applications.

In some regions, the document can only be picked up in person at the service point where it was requested. In others, the citizen has the alternative of receiving the new ID card through the Post Office, following deadlines and any fees established by each local agency.

New ID Card: In Which States is Postal Delivery Already Allowed

Currently, not all states offer the option of delivering the new ID card via the Post Office. According to a recent survey:

São Paulo: Allows sending the CIN to a residence after an appointment at Poupatempo.

Minas Gerais: Also offers the home delivery option for new requests.

Other states still require that the document be picked up at the service point.

Documents Required to Request the New ID Card

To request the National Identity Card, you must bring to the in-person appointment:

Birth or marriage certificate, original or notarized copy.

CPF, which will be linked to the document number. Some states also allow additional information, such as blood type or social name, provided there is proof.

Deadline, Validity, and Cost

The first issuance of the new ID card (CIN) is free of charge.

The deadline for delivery via the Post Office varies by state but typically takes up to 15 business days in many regions.

The document is valid for 5 to 10 years, depending on the citizen’s age.

Advantages of Postal Delivery

  • Convenience: You don’t need to return to the service point to pick up the document.
  • Reduced queues and travel: Ideal for those with mobility difficulties or who live far from service points.
  • Security: The document is tracked by the Post Office, reducing the risk of loss.

Possible Disadvantages and Cautions

Even with delivery by mail, it is important to:

Confirm that the registered address is correct at the time of the in-person appointment, as the Post Office will use this location for delivery.

Check if the state where you are requesting the ID card actually allows home delivery, as not all offer this service.

Track the parcel to ensure that the document will be received.

Delivery by the Post Office is expected to expand to more states as the new ID card becomes increasingly common.

The government is also exploring ways to speed up processes, such as expanding service points for biometric data collection and modernizing tracking systems.

For many Brazilians, this new phase represents greater practicality, security, and inclusion — a real advance in the modernization of our national identity.

O prazo final para substituir a atual RG pela CIN é 2032. Mas para quem vai solicitar algum benefício previdenciário ou renovar seu cadastro é 1° de janeiro de 2028. A emissão é gratuita. No estado de São Paulo, pode ser feita nos postos do Poupa Tempo.
