MEC in partnership with three universities offers free online courses (EAD) in special education. Sign up and make a difference!
Three renowned Brazilian universities, in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MEC), opened registrations for 15.000 vacancies in free Special Education courses. The Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), the State University of Maranhão (UEMA) and the São Paulo State University (UNESP) have joined forces to train basic education teachers, promoting inclusive pedagogical practices and positively impacting education in Brazil.
These courses aim to prepare educators to meet the needs of students with disabilities, respecting the particularities of each one and promoting an inclusive educational environment.
Each free course is 120 hours long, fully online (EAD), and explores theoretical and practical content on human rights, curriculum adaptation, pedagogical practices and inclusive strategies, offering essential tools to transform basic education.

Which courses and universities are offering these vacancies?
The 15.000 places are distributed equally between the three institutions:
- UFRB (Federal University of Recôncavo Bahia) : Special Education Course for basic education teachers in the public school system in Bahia, with 5.000 places distributed across different municipalities. Registration until November 15, 2024, with selection based on order of registration and analysis of documentation.
- UEMA (State University of Maranhão) : Advanced training course for teachers in the public elementary and high school system, with synchronous and asynchronous activities. There are 5.000 vacancies for candidates from Maranhão, filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications until November 4, 2024.
- UNESP (São Paulo State University) : Special Education course focused on inclusion, aimed at teachers in the public school system of São Paulo, with 5.000 places, 1.250 of which are reserved for affirmative action. Applications until November 15, 2024.
What are the requirements and criteria to participate?
Each free online course (EAD) has specific requirements, such as being active in the public education system, having a bachelor's degree and, in some cases, basic computer knowledge and internet access.
The selection criteria are mainly based on the order of registration, respecting the reservation of places for affirmative actions, as in the case of UNESP.
How and where to register for the free MEC course?
Since applications are made exclusively online, each institution provides its own system for the process. At UFRB and UEMA, vacancies are filled according to the order of applications, with subsequent analysis of documentation.
At UNESP, there is also a reserve of 25% of vacancies for affirmative actions, which include groups such as black people, indigenous people and people with disabilities.
