MEC Releases New Announcement with the Rules for the Enem 2025 Essay: Revealed What Evaluators Expect and How to Use the New Guide to Outshine Competitors and Achieve a Perfect Score in the Enem 2025 Essay.

MEC announces new rules for the Enem 2025 essay and reveals the step-by-step process to write a perfect score essay, get ahead of competitors, and gain admission to university, obtain a high school diploma, or secure scholarships through Prouni.

It has just been published by INEP and MEC the Enem 2025 Essay Guide, a document that guides candidates and teachers on how the essay will be evaluated in this edition of the exam. The announcement, recently released on the official INEP portal, is one of the most anticipated stages of the Enem, as it defines criteria, competencies, and examples that help students understand what the evaluator expects to find in a perfect score essay.

The guide is, in practice, a complete manual on the Enem Essay Reference Matrix, containing detailed explanations of each competency, commented perfect score essays, and warnings about mistakes that result in a zero score.

Understanding it is essential for those seeking a good score and wanting to use the Enem result to gain admission to university, obtain a high school diploma, or contest scholarships from Prouni and spots in Sisu.

What Is the Enem 2025 Essay Guide and What Is Its Purpose?

The Enem 2025 Essay Guide was developed by the Directorate of Basic Education Assessment (DAEB) of INEP, with the aim of making the correction process more transparent.

According to the agency, the document “guides the participant on the criteria used by evaluators and offers practical examples to improve performance in the essay exam.”

The material presents:

  • The five evaluated competencies;
  • Models of essays that achieved the maximum score (1,000 points);
  • Situations that lead to a zero score;
  • Recommendations on structure, cohesion, and use of standard language.

In summary, the guide is the main tool for textual preparation, allowing the candidate to understand how the evaluator thinks and what they are looking for in each part of the text.

How Is the Enem Essay Evaluated?

According to INEP, the essay is graded by two independent evaluators, who assign scores from 0 to 200 points for each of the five competencies defined by the guide. The final score is the arithmetic average of the two scores, which can reach up to 1,000 points.

If there is a discrepancy of more than 100 points in total or 80 points in any competency, the text is sent to a third evaluator. If the difference persists, the essay is forwarded to a special committee, composed of three experienced evaluators who determine the final score.

This model seeks to ensure justice and balance in the evaluation, eliminating distortions among evaluators and standardizing correction criteria across the country.

What Are the Five Competencies Evaluated in the Enem Essay?

The guide explains that the participant’s performance is measured based on five specific competencies, which should be balanced with each other to ensure a good score.

1. Mastery of the Standard Norm of the Portuguese Language

Evaluates the correct use of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax. The text must conform to the formal standard of the written language, with no traces of orality.

2. Understanding of the Proposal and Sociocultural Repertoire

Examines whether the participant understood the proposed theme and if they respected the limits of the argumentative-essay genre. It also considers the use of productive sociocultural repertoire, that is, historical, scientific, philosophical, or artistic references that enhance the argumentation.

The guide warns about the so-called “pocket repertoire” — generic citations learned by heart and without real connection to the theme, which can harm the score.

3. Selection and Organization of Arguments

Analyzes whether the text presents coherence, consistency, and progression of ideas. The candidate must organize facts and opinions in a logical sequence, articulating paragraphs fluidly and convincingly.

4. Textual Cohesion and Linguistic Mechanisms

Evaluates the appropriate use of connectives, pronouns, and expressions that link sentences and paragraphs. The text needs to “flow” naturally, with well-made transitions and interconnected arguments.

5. Elaboration of an Intervention Proposal

This is the differential of perfect score essays. The participant must present a concrete and viable solution for the addressed problem, respecting human rights.
The proposal needs to indicate who will do it, what will be done, how, and for what purpose, demonstrating social commitment and clarity in argumentation.

What Can Lead to a Zero Score in the Enem 2025 Essay?

The Essay Guide lists the situations that automatically lead to a zero score. Among them:

  • Complete deviation from the proposed theme;
  • Text that is not argumentative-essay;
  • Essay with less than 7 written lines;
  • Sections copied from the motivational texts;
  • Drawings, profanity, or offenses;
  • Illegible text or text written in another language;
  • Signature or identification mark.

Even a good text can receive a zero score if it violates these rules, which is why attention to detail and compliance with the norms are essential.

How to Achieve a Perfect Score on the Enem 2025 Essay?

Essays that achieve a perfect score typically follow a standard of excellence that involves clarity, planning, and solid repertoire. Here are some strategies pointed out by specialists and confirmed by INEP itself:

  1. Practice regularly, simulating the exam timing.
  2. Read perfect score essays from the guide to understand what is valued in each competency.
  3. Avoid clichés and memorized phrases, focus on original and contextualized ideas.
  4. Include real repertoire, such as data from IBGE, UN, UNESCO, or relevant authors.
  5. Develop a detailed intervention proposal, specifying the agent, action, and purpose.
  6. Review the text before submission, eliminating grammatical errors and repetitions.

According to Professor Gustavo Almeida from INEP, “those who understand the social purpose of the essay and demonstrate authorship in their ideas are closer to a perfect score than those who simply copy ready-made models.”

Why Studying with the Official Guide Makes a Difference?

Because it literally is the mirror of the evaluator! The guide shows exactly how each competency is scored, explains what penalizes, and presents practical examples of how the same mistake can reduce the score in more than one competency.

Additionally, it provides real models of perfect score essays, commented line by line, something that no course reproduces with the same precision.

With the recently launched announcement, now is the ideal time to study it. Every detail you understand before the exam increases your chances of performance and reduces nervousness on the exam day.

Mastering the five competencies, knowing the schedule, and studying based on the official INEP document is the safest path to achieve a high score.

If you are going to take the Enem this year, start today to familiarize yourself with the guide, read the examples, and try to write at least one essay per week until November. Check out the guide below and use it as a basis for each practice. The sooner you understand the criteria, the greater your chances of achieving a high score.
