Starting 2026 with the CNPJ up to date is a central challenge for millions of individual microentrepreneurs in Brazil.

With that in mind, Sebrae gathered practical guidelines to help MEI 2026 fulfill the MEI obligations, avoid delays, and maintain access to social security benefits.

The recommendations apply to those already operating in the market and, especially, to the 3.8 million new registrations opened in 2025.

The guidelines were prepared by accountant and Sebrae consultant Suely Lira, and involve monthly and annual care, such as payment of DAS, submission of the DASN SIMEI, and attention to the communications from the Revenue Service.

The goal is simple: to ensure the regularization of the CNPJ, reduce the risk of fines, and avoid disqualification from the regime.

Why The Beginning Of The Year Is Decisive For MEI 2026

The beginning of the year concentrates deadlines, financial adjustments, and strategic decisions.

For many microentrepreneurs, this period determines whether the business will remain formalized or face tax issues in the following months.

Moreover, keeping MEI obligations up to date ensures important social security rights.

According to Sebrae, a lack of organization in the first months of the year is still one of the main factors of irregularity among small businesses.

Therefore, acting with planning right in January makes all the difference for the financial health of the company.

Payment Of DAS: Monthly Obligation That Cannot Fail

Among the MEI obligations, the payment of DAS is the most recurring and essential.

The Simples Nacional Collection Document must be paid every month, always by the 20th.

The amount ranges between R$ 81.05 and R$ 87.05, depending on the activity performed.

For the MEI Truck Driver, the monthly contribution is higher, ranging from R$ 195.52 to R$ 200.52, depending on the incidence of ICMS, ISS, or both.

“The monthly payment guarantees your social security rights, such as retirement, sick leave, and maternity pay,” recalls accountant Suely Lira.

The guide can be issued through the Entrepreneur Portal, the official app, or Sebrae’s own website.

Keeping this commitment up to date is the basis for the regularization of the CNPJ.

Issuance Of Invoice And Revenue Control

Another central point for MEI 2026 is the issuance of invoices. Whenever selling products or providing services to other companies, the invoice is mandatory.

The annual revenue limit remains at R$ 81,000, which equals an average of R$ 6,750 per month.

“If the entrepreneur opened their business during the year, the limit will be proportional to the months of activity.

Control your revenue monthly and organize your issued and received invoices to avoid exceeding the limit and losing MEI status,” warns Suely.

This control prevents future problems and facilitates filling out the DASN SIMEI.

DASN SIMEI: Mandatory Annual Declaration

Among the annual obligations, the DASN SIMEI deserves special attention.

This is the Simplified Annual Declaration, in which the MEI reports the total gross revenue from the previous year, with or without invoicing.

“It is mandatory for all MEIs, even those who did not have revenue,” explains Suely Lira.

The declaration for the year 2025 must be submitted by May 31, 2026, through the Entrepreneur Portal.

Delays incur a minimum fine of R$ 50 per month and may lead to the cancellation of the CNPJ, jeopardizing the regularization of the CNPJ and the business operation.

Income Tax And Electronic Tax Domicile

In addition to the DASN SIMEI, the MEI may need to declare Individual Income Tax if they exceed income limits or meet other legal requirements.

Even so, the annual declaration of the MEI remains mandatory.

It is also essential to monitor the Electronic Tax Domicile (DTE). Through e-CAC, the entrepreneur can access messages from the Federal Revenue, such as notices of pendencies or disqualification.

Ignoring these communications can lead to serious issues.

Financial Organization And Training Strengthen MEI 2026

Separating personal and business finances is another key recommendation from Sebrae.

Research by the organization shows that over 60% of small businesses still mix accounts, which undermines financial control.

Furthermore, investing in training helps maintain MEI obligations in check.

Thus, free courses, such as “How To Control Cash Flow,” provide practical tools to improve management, reduce risks, and make safer decisions throughout the year.

Regularization Of The CNPJ As A Growth Strategy

Meeting MEI obligations is not just a legal requirement, but a strategy for survival and growth.

So with payment of DASDASN SIMEI up to date and attention to tax rules, MEI 2026 gains predictability, access to benefits, and more security to plan the future of the business.
