The New Terminal Promises to Transform Tourism on the North Coast of Alagoas with Modern Infrastructure, Local Economy Boost, and Operations for Large Aircraft
The North Coast of Alagoas is about to experience a historic change with the arrival of Costa dos Corais Airport, a project valued at R$ 371 million aimed at boosting tourist flow in one of the most visited regions in the Northeast. Expected to be completed in 2026, the new terminal in Maragogi promises to facilitate access to the so-called “Brazilian Caribbean,” as well as generate jobs, income, and development at an accelerated pace.
The information was disclosed by the Government of Alagoas in recent articles, highlighting that the project is funded through a credit operation with Banco do Brasil. Thus, the investment promises to meet not only the growing tourist demand but also the new standards of air infrastructure required by the sector.
Robust Structure for A320, B737-800, and Large Aircraft
Costa dos Corais Airport will be one of the most modern in the Northeast, occupying a total area of 340 hectares. The project includes a runway capable of receiving large aircraft, such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing B737-800 models — the same ones used for long domestic and international flights.

Google will finally let you change that embarrassing Gmail address you created in your teenage years without losing any accounts, logins, or old emails: the feature is already available in the United States.
In addition to the runway, the terminal will feature a parking area for up to two aircraft simultaneously, providing greater operational flexibility. The structure also includes a passenger terminal, helipad, modern boarding and disembarking gates, four check-in counters, an X-ray machine for baggage inspection, and an administrative building that will centralize all management services.
To offer more convenience to travelers, there will be parking for cars, buses, and vans, facilitating the flow of tourists arriving at the most sought-after beaches in Alagoas, such as Antunes, Barra Grande, and São Bento. According to data released by the State Government, this infrastructure is expected to further elevate Maragogi’s status as a strategic destination on the national tourist map.
Studies, Management, and Economic Impact for the Region
Last week, the Official State Gazette published the list of one company and three consortia authorized to present commercial and executive feasibility studies for the airport. They have a deadline of 90 days to submit projects, surveys, and investigations that will support the definition of the final management model of the venture.
According to the State Secretariat for Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services (Sedics), the modern terminal and the capacity to accommodate larger aircraft make Costa dos Corais Airport a significant vector for regional development. This is because, in addition to expanding air connectivity, the new airport is expected to boost job and income generation, benefiting workers in tourism, commerce, hospitality, transportation, and services.
Additionally, according to information available on the official portal segov.al.gov.br/pmi, all documents related to the Expression of Interest Procedure (PMI) are available for public consultation, reinforcing the transparency of the project. The expectation is that, by December this year, the government will complete the analysis of the studies and define which management model will be adopted — information also disclosed by G1 AL in a report on the project’s progress.
Tourists Will Arrive Faster to the “Northeast Paradise” in 2026
The new images released by the Government of Alagoas show what Costa dos Corais Airport will look like, highlighting a modern, spacious architecture fully integrated into the coastal environment. With completion expected in 2026, the terminal is set to shorten the travel time for tourists from Brazil and abroad, eliminating the more than two-hour land journey currently required for those arriving in Recife or Maceió.
With this expansion, Maragogi will compete equally with high-profile tourist destinations like Porto de Galinhas and São Miguel dos Milagres. In addition to facilitating the arrival of travelers, the new terminal is expected to strengthen the local economy, promoting new businesses, investments, and opportunities that directly impact the local population.
