A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.4 in Indonesia generated alert and fear, causing residents to seek ways to protect themselves and sea levels rose in various areas

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia struck the sea near the island of Ternate on the morning of April 2, causing fear and destruction in some areas.

The impact was immediate. One person died after a building collapsed, and residents rushed out of their homes due to the strong tremor. A tsunami alert was also issued, which kept neighboring countries on alert for several hours.

Strong tremor causes death and leaves people injured

The earthquake was felt strongly in the city of Manado, where the confirmed death occurred. The victim was trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building.

Another person sustained leg injuries, showing that the tremor caused real damage. Released images show affected buildings and damaged parts of structures.

Reuters, the international news agency, released the first information about the impact of the earthquake and the recorded damages.

Tsunami alert was issued and canceled after about two hours

Shortly after the tremor, authorities issued a tsunami alert for nearby countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

The warning generated concern in coastal regions. Nevertheless, the risk was considered low after more detailed analyses.

Reuters, the international news agency, reported that the alert was canceled about two hours later, when it was confirmed that there was no longer any danger.

Small waves were recorded, but without major damage

Even with the end of the alert, some waves were recorded. In certain areas, the sea level rose about 0.3 meters, while in others it was 0.2 meters.

These waves did not cause significant destruction but served as a warning signal for residents and authorities.

The greatest risk was for regions close to the tremor site, within an area of up to 1,000 km from the epicenter.

Tremor occurred at sea and had new shocks afterwards

The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 35 km, at sea, approximately 120 km from the island of Ternate.

After the main tremor, other smaller shocks were recorded, some with a magnitude of up to 5, which increased tension among residents.

Nearby cities prepared for possible evacuations for safety.

Residents report fear and panic after the tremor

The tremor was long and strong enough to wake people during the morning. Many residents ran out of their homes to open areas.

Reports indicate that schools also suffered damages, with students quickly leaving classrooms for safety.

Despite the scare, some areas did not report major structural damage.

Region has a history of frequent earthquakes

Indonesia is located in an area known for having many earthquakes. This happens because the country is on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates meet.

This condition makes tremors common, some of them quite strong, like the one recorded now.

Situation returns to normal after dismissing the risk

The 7.4 earthquake in Indonesia left victims, caused damage, and generated alerts in several countries, but the greater risk was dismissed a few hours later.

The situation was quickly controlled, and authorities continue to monitor for possible new tremors in the region.
