If you think that popular brands like Ford, Chevrolet or Volkswagen are at the top of the lists of most durable cars, it might be time to reconsider your beliefs. A recent study conducted in the United States brought a real surprise to those who follow the automobile market.
Models widely known in Brazil surpass the competition and are ahead of vehicles that, historically, are considered synonymous with robustness and durability.
According to the annual survey by the specialized website ISeeCars, barely 8,6% of cars in the US have more than 400 kilometers driven, but when it comes to certain models, the resistance is even more impressive.
At the top of the ranking, the probability of reaching this mark is four times greater, with rates reaching over 36%, highlighting vehicles that have already become popular with Brazilians. Among SUVs and pickups, the Japanese, in special toyota, dominate widely, demonstrating why this brand is synonymous with reliability worldwide.

Toyota comfortably dominates the top 5
A Toyota, already known and appreciated for its reliability, tops the list with an impressive five vehicles among the most durable, according to ISeeCars analysis, based on more than 402 million cars evaluated.
The data shows that, in the North American market, the Japanese automaker continues to set new standards for longevity, outlasting historic rivals. Models such as Toyota Tundra e Toyota Sequoia stand out alongside other driver favorites such as 4Runner, Tacoma and Highlander Hybrid.
See below the ranking of vehicles that most exceed the impressive mark of 400 thousand kilometers:
- Toyota Tundra - 36,6%
- Toyota Sequoia - 36,4%
- toyota 4runner - 26,8%
- Toyota Tacoma - 26,7%
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid - 25,9%
These SUVs and pickup trucks not only stand out for their durability, but they are also preferred by drivers who seek confidence in their choices. According to the study, these vehicles exceed the mileage of 400 thousand km with a significantly higher frequency than the average for regular cars.
Rivals also try to stay in the game
Although the Toyota dominates the scenario, other Japanese and American automakers also have their representatives.
A Honda Ridgeline, for example, appears in sixth place with a 25,8% chance of exceeding 400 thousand km. The American Chevrolet Suburban appears right behind, occupying the seventh position, being the first US automaker to appear in the ranking. See the sequence:
- Honda Ridgeline - 25,8%
- Chevrolet Suburban - 22%
- Toyota Avalon - 22%
- Lexus GX - 20,7%
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - 18,8%
Despite Chevrolet's presence, the durable vehicle market landscape in the United States is still largely dominated by Japanese car manufacturers, which occupy 20 of the top 30 positions in the overall ranking, according to ISeeCars. However, if a category of heavy vehicles were considered, the list would take a different direction.
RAM 3500: the great rival of Japanese pickups
The research revealed that, when large pickup trucks were analyzed, the result would be different. The RAM 3500, an American giant, would have the leadership with a chance of 42,6% of reaching the 400 thousand km mark, surpassing all of Toyota's competitors.
However, the category was separated in the study, which favored the supremacy of Japanese pickups in the light utility vehicle segment.
A Chevrolet Silverado 1500, another American representative in the ranking, closes the top 10 with 18,8% probability to achieve this impressive mileage.
According to the research, this dominance of Japanese automakers is something that is recurring, but the RAM 3500 could have changed the perception if he was competing in the same group.
Toyota: the brand beloved by Brazilians
Here in Brazil, the Toyota is already seen as synonymous with trust. Models like the Corolla and Hilux are common on the streets, and the ISeeCars study only reinforces this image.
What may be surprising is the fact that vehicles that stand out in the American market, such as the Tundra and the Sequoia, are not yet so popular here, although they have the same durability that Brazilians appreciate so much in the brand's models.
Furthermore, the Corolla and Civic, two of the most beloved sedans by Brazilians, also appear in the study. They were among the 10 most durable sedans of the survey, showing that, both in the USA and in Brazil, these models remain strong in popular taste and in terms of longevity.
A Toyota, with its history of reliable and robust cars, has once again proven why it is a globally respected brand. The ISeeCars study, which analyzed millions of vehicles, reinforces the Japanese automaker's dominance, especially in the utility vehicle and SUV segment, with models such as the Tundra and Sequoia leading the way.
