During the days that followed, the Peruvian faced despair, but also had to reinvent himself to survive.
Their only food was what nature could offer: insects, birds and even turtles. He was also able to drink rainwater that fell from the sky, which was vital to his survival.
For 15 days, however, he was unable to eat, making his journey even more dramatic.
A miracle in the Pacific Ocean
Napa Castro's rescue took place on March 11, when he was found by a fishing boat from Equador, which was sailing off the northern coast of Peru. When located, the fisherman was in a critical state of dehydration, but still alive.
Upon being rescued, Napa Castro revealed that, during the most difficult moments of the shipwreck, he constantly thought about his family, especially his mother and granddaughter, which gave him the strength to continue fighting for his life.
The family's reaction: gratitude and hope
The news of the rescue moved his daughter, Inés Napa Torres, who publicly thanked the Ecuadorian fishermen.
“Thank you, Ecuadorian brothers, for rescuing my father Gatón. God bless you,” she wrote on social media, expressing her enormous gratitude for the actions of the fishermen who saved her father’s life.
The recovery: strength and resilience
After the rescue, Napa Castro was taken to the Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Hospital in Paita, where he underwent medical examinations and was discharged a few days later.
His recovery is a true testament to human resilience and the willpower of a man who, lost at sea, never lost hope.
