Petrobras' ambitious initiative promises to revolutionize oil and gas extraction in deep waters in Sergipe.
Get ready for a revolution in the seas of Sergipe! Petrobras is about to launch floating platforms for oil and gas extraction that promise to transform the energy industry in Brazil.
A Petrobras announced during Rio Oil & Gas 2024 that two will be operated floating platforms for oil and gas extraction in the Sergipe Deep Waters Project (SEAP). The units, called SEAP I and SEAP II, are FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) and will have the capacity to produce 240 thousand barrels of oil and 22 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. These floating platforms not only will be responsible for production, but also for the storage and transfer of fuels at sea.
Floating platforms for oil and gas extraction will be transferred
By adopting the BOT model, Petrobras guarantees efficiency and safety in the new project. The BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) model will allow the Petrobras build, operate and subsequently transfer the floating platforms for oil and gas extraction. This model was chosen due to the lack of offers for the charter bidding, resulting from the scarcity of credit in Europe and Asia, the main financiers of this type of contract.

120 thousand barrels of oil and 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day
As floating platforms for oil and gas extraction SEAP I and SEAP II will have, respectively, the capacity to produce 120 thousand barrels of oil and 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day each. The project includes a gas pipeline for the flow of 128 km long with 100 km at sea and 28 km on land.
Marcelo Menezes, executive secretary of Sedetec, stated: “Petrobras' decision to adopt the BOT model is an important guarantee for the viability of the Sergipe Deep Waters Project and demonstrates the state-owned company’s commitment to the development of the energy sector in Sergipe.”
Forecast for 2028
With the inauguration of floating platforms for oil and gas extraction scheduled for 2028, Sergipe's energy sector is about to reach a significant milestone.

There is nothing revolutionary about it. They are two production vessels like the others in the Santos, Campos and Espírito Santo basin fields.
