San Martin Ship Docks at Port of Paranaguá with Geely Electric Vehicles, Marking the Return of the Chinese Brand to Brazil After Nine Years.
Recently, the San Martin ship, coming from the Port of Shanghai, docked at the Port of Paranaguá in Paraná, carrying hundreds of electric vehicles from Geely. The operation marks the return of the Chinese automaker to Brazil after almost a decade out of the national market.
Geely Invests in National Partnership to Resume Operations in Brazil
The operation took place at berth 219, a structure specific for Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) type ships — vessels designed to transport wheeled cargo. This type of docking, done perpendicular to the dock, ensures greater agility and safety in the unloading of automobiles.
According to Luiz Fernando Garcia, CEO of Portos do Paraná, the operation represents a strategic milestone.

This time, through a partnership with a manufacturer already established in the country, the aim is to attract Brazilian consumers with sustainable and technological models.
This unloading at the Port of Paranaguá reinforces the company’s interest in strengthening its presence in South America, taking advantage of the modern and efficient port infrastructure of the Paraná coast.
Vehicle Exports from Paraná Also Gain Spotlight
While the state receives vehicles from abroad, the automotive sector in Paraná is also experiencing a growth moment in exports.
From January to May of this year, international sales of cars produced in Paraná grew 73.7% compared to the same period in 2024.
The value of exports jumped from US$ 172 million to US$ 299 million, according to data from MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services), compiled by Ipardes.
Much of this increase is a result of the significant growth of sales to Argentina, which increased its purchases by an impressive 464%, rising from US$ 32 million to US$ 182 million.
South American Market Boosts Paraná Automotive Sector
In addition to Argentina, other countries in South America also contributed to the strong performance of exports:
- Colombia: growth of 49%
- Uruguay: increase of 38%
- Chile: advance of 28%
This positive scenario reaffirms the strategic role of the Port of Paranaguá in both the import of electric vehicles and the export of local production.
