A former bank executive was fired in 2021, sent live snakes to his former bosses between December 2023 and January 2024, using perforated envelopes and insects to keep them alive until delivery.

A former branch director of the French bank was tried in June of this year after being accused of sending live snakes to four executives at the bank’s regional headquarters.

The man, fired in 2021, was previously unknown to the authorities. The events took place between December 8, 2023, and January 8, 2024.

Live Snakes Sent by Mail

According to the investigation, the former executive bought the animals at a store. He was filmed by security cameras going to the location twice, using his own car and disguised with a wig.

The same accessory was found at his home during the police search. In the vehicle, agents also seized notes with the victims’ personal addresses.

The accused did not fully deny the facts. “It’s likely,” he said, claiming to be facing a serious illness and a difficult family situation. “I don’t remember going to the post office, nor buying the snakes and the wig. I remember very vague images. I wasn’t in my normal state,” he stated, mentioning that he went to have coffee at the neighbor’s house only in his underwear and flip-flops on January 2.

Animals Were Alive and Well Packaged

During the trial, the court highlighted that the snakes were alive inside the envelopes. The man had placed insects to feed them and perforated the paper to allow for breathing. One of the reptiles escaped inside the police station during the seizure and was difficult to capture.

Despite the unusual behavior, the defendant expressed remorse: “How embarrassing to have done this. It was resentment, not anger. I wasn’t in my normal state. You have nothing to fear. I am again who I was before. I apologize.” The psychiatric report confirmed a change in discernment at the time of the events.

Conviction and Compensation

One of the victims challenged the defendant’s remorse: “The man we knew is not a good person. Imagine the shock of opening an envelope with a live snake inside.”

The Public Ministry requested six months of imprisonment with suspension. The defense argued that the defendant “is afraid of snakes” and requested a dismissal of the sentence.

The court sentenced him to six months in prison with suspension and determined compensation for the victims, considering the defendant’s mental distress. “We take into account his change in discernment. The snakes are dead,” concluded the judge.

Claro que é tentativa de homicídio, mas errado não está.
