New model will accompany the evolution of SpaceX's satellite network and promises to revolutionize satellite connectivity
SpaceX is preparing a new technological advancement on its satellite internet network. The company announced the development of the Starlink Gen 4 router, designed to offer download speeds up to 2 Gbps. The launch, expected to occur in 2025, should significantly increase the quality of service offered to both residential and corporate users, consolidating the proposal for access to high speed internet in any region, according to the Veja website.
Compatibility with Starlink Mini Kit and focus on energy efficiency
One main differences of the new model will be its integration with the Starlink Mini Kit — a portable and more economical version of the equipment, aimed at users who need mobile connectivity or in remote areas. The Gen 4 router will feature a compact design and will be optimized to consume less energy, an important feature for applications in locations with limited electrical infrastructure.
Enhanced connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 and next-generation satellite support
While keep the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard, Gen 4 differentiates itself by supporting wider frequency ranges. This will allow for greater connection stability and faster transfer rates, especially in environments with many devices connected simultaneously. The router is also being developed to work in conjunction with the Starlink constellation’s V3 satellites, which will offer significantly higher capacity per beam, as well as lower latency.

Complete update on Starlink line equipment
In addition to the introduction of Gen 4, SpaceX is updating other equipment of the Starlink ecosystem. The Flat High-Performance satellite dish, aimed at the enterprise sector, will undergo improvements, as will the standard residential kits, which will receive new architecture network and greater integration with new generation satellites. The goal is to offer a more robust and scalable infrastructure, capable of meeting the growing demand for high-speed connectivity.
Scheduled for release in 2025
The production of new flat antenna is already in progress, according to sources close to the company. This data, added to the recent registration of the router model identified as UTR-251 with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), suggests that the Gen 4 launch and the new access kits are close. The market expectation is that the equipment are available for consumers in the second half of 2025.
