Investments by mining companies in Minas Gerais

The mining company Sigma Lithium will invest BRL 859,4 million to produce high purity lithium on the border between Araçuaí and Itinga, in the Jequitinhonha Valley, north of Minas Gerais. In June, the company began earthworks at the production and processing plant at Grota do Cirilo, in Itinga. This will be the first plant of its kind in the country and the expectation is to complete the works in 2022, when it will start producing 220 thousand tons per year of lithium concentrate.

The mining company SAM – Sul Americana de Metais (SAM), signed a term of commitment whose objective is to accompany public prosecutors in the state of Minas Gerais in the process of environmental licensing of the megaproject for the exploration of low-grade iron ore that the multinational intends to implant in the North of Minas. The large project could receive investments of R$ 11 billion and 6,2 jobs could be created.

Airplane and electric car factory to be built in the state

Desaer – Desenvolvimento Aeronáutico – has plans to build its aircraft factory in the city of Araxá, in the state of Minas Gerais, with the aim of producing the ATL-100 twin-engine aircraft (light transport aircraft). Work at the aircraft factory is expected to begin in the second half of this year. The company was founded by engineer Evandro Fernandes Fileno, who left Embraer in 2016 to create the ATL-100 and then found Desaer.

Abralatas – Brazilian Association of Can Manufacturers, disclosed that three projects by can manufacturers are underway for the installation of new factories in the state of Minas Gerais, strengthening the offer of aluminum cans in Brazil. Crown Embalagens, Ball and Ardagh Group will invest BRL 3 billion by the end of the 2020-2022 three-year period in three new aluminum can production units, spread across the state of Minas Gerais.

The American company Ball Corporation will invest BRL 504 million in a new aluminum packaging factory in Frutal, state of Minas Gerais. With the investment, this factory will be the largest headquarters for aluminum packaging for beverages. 100 new jobs can be generated.

The Ardagh Group, in a recent presentation to investors, listed a project for a new factory with two lines also in Minas Gerais, in addition to expansions in existing units in the Northeast region and in Jacareí, in the state of São Paulo.
