In addition to increasing production and modernizing its units, Suzano's new tissue paper factory in Aracruz will be responsible for employing many local residents.
Suzano Papel e Celulose announced a significant investment of R$650 million for the construction of a new factory of tissue paper in Aracruz, in the North of Espírito Santo. The venture was revealed at a ceremony held last Thursday (26) in the city of São Paulo, with the presence of Suzano's CEO, Walter Schalka, and state authorities, including governor Renato Casagrande and vice-governor Ricardo Ferraço, who participated virtually.
Brazilian pulp production giant, Suzano expands its operations in Espírito Santo
The new tissue paper factory represents another strategic step by Suzano in its movement to add value to production.
The company already has a similar unit in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, opened in 2020.
The Aracruz plant will have a production capacity of 60 thousand tons per year, double the capacity of the unit in the south of the state.
The expectation is that the new factory enter into operation in the first quarter of 2026, after two years of construction.
With this expansion, Suzano will increase its production of consumer goods, such as toilet paper, napkins and wet wipes, to a total of 340 thousand tons annually, with 90 thousand tons produced in Espírito Santo.
Tissue paper factory in Aracruz expands production capacity and creates jobs
During the factory's construction period, 300 jobs are expected to be opened, providing an economic boost to the region.
After completion of the works, the factory's operation is expected to generate around 200 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to the strengthening of the local economy.
In addition to the construction of the tissue paper factory, Suzano will also invest R$520 million in the modernization of its pulp production, replacing a biomass boiler.
This upgrade will not only increase the plant's energy efficiency but reduce pollutant emissions.
The new biomass boiler is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2025, reinforcing Suzano's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Vice-governor Ricardo Ferraço celebrated the announcement, highlighting the importance of the project for the state: “It is very important news for Espírito Santo. We are going to have a paper factory in the State, from end to end, and with great capacity. The Cachoeiro unit converts paper into tissue, we are now going to be manufacturers. What comes out of here will have the capacity to serve 10 million consumers. We are going to send paper all over Brazil”, he highlighted.
The project for Suzano's new tissue paper factory in Aracruz had been announced in June last year, however, it was awaiting approval from the Board of Directors, granted at last Thursday's event (26/10).
