The Kia EV2 was unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show as the brand’s new entry-level electric vehicle in Europe, aimed at urban use and with dimensions close to a BYD Dolphin.
The model will have batteries of 42.2 kWh or 61 kWh, with an estimated range of up to 448 km in the WLTP cycle, as well as fast charging from 10% to 80% in about half an hour, according to data released by the manufacturer.
The Kia confirmed the production of the EV2 at the Žilina plant in Slovakia, positioning the model below the EV3, EV5, EV6, and EV9 within its electric range. So far, there is no official confirmation regarding the vehicle’s commercialization in the Brazilian market.

Compact Size and Comparison with the BYD Dolphin
With a length of 4.06 m, the EV2 fits into the range of vehicles around four meters, a segment that includes models aimed at urban use.
The size brings it close to the BYD Dolphin sold in Brazil, which measures 4.125 m, allowing a direct comparison in terms of proposal and category.
The wheelbase is made possible by a variation of the E-GMP electric platform, adapted for the entry segment.
According to Kia, this architecture allows for different internal arrangements, focusing on maximizing the available space in the cabin.
Batteries, Range, and Charging Architecture
The SUV will be offered with two battery options, 42.2 kWh and 61.0 kWh, with projected ranges of 317 km and 448 km in the WLTP cycle.
The figures released by the brand still depend on final homologation in the markets where the model will be sold.
The EV2 uses a 400V electrical architecture, the same as the EV3. Nevertheless, Kia reports charging times similar to those of larger models in the lineup: about 29 minutes for the Standard version and 30 minutes for the Long Range when charging from 10% to 80% on direct current.
In alternating current charging, the model supports 11 kW and can receive 22 kW as an option, depending on the chosen configuration.
Modular Interior and 403-Liter Trunk
Inside, the EV2 adopts the “Picnic Box” concept, defined by the brand as an approach focused on flexibility of internal space.
The rear seats feature sliding and reclining adjustments, allowing for varying priorities between passenger space and load capacity.
According to Kia, the legroom can reach 958 mm in this configuration.
With the rear seats moved forward, the trunk reaches 403 liters, measured by the VDA standard.
The model also includes a front compartment of 15 liters, primarily intended for carrying charging cables.
Screens, Connectivity, and Bidirectional Energy Features
The dashboard follows the standard adopted in other recent electric models from the brand, with three integrated screens: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 5.3-inch display dedicated to climate control, and a 12.3-inch multimedia center, according to specifications released for the European market.
Among the electronic features, Kia confirms the presence of the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) system, which allows powering external equipment, and preparation for V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid).
The use of V2G depends on specific regulations and infrastructure in each country.
Semi-Autonomous Driving and Remote Maneuvers
Even as the entry-level model of the electric lineup, the EV2 is expected to offer a broad set of driver assistance systems.
The list released by the manufacturer includes Highway Driving Assist 2, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and Remote Smart Parking Assist, which allows maneuvering the vehicle remotely via the key.
The availability of these systems may vary depending on the market and the version sold.
Production and Market Arrival
The schedule released by Kia for Europe foresees a phased production start, with standard-range versions being manufactured first, followed by Long Range and GT-Line configurations.
Prices, final versions, and standard equipment are expected to be detailed by the brand as the launch approaches in each country.
According to the magazine Quatro Rodas, the model arrives in Europe to compete in the compact electric segment against rivals such as the Renault 5 and the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Polo.
Still according to Quatro Rodas, there is no official confirmation about the sale of the EV2 in Brazil.
The magazine notes, however, that the recent expansion of Kia’s electric line in the country positions the model as a potential candidate to operate in the entry level of electric vehicles from traditional brands, currently occupied by vehicles like the Renault Megane E-Tech.
