With an Investment of R$ 10.23 Billion, the Concession of a Section of 686 km in Rondônia Modernizes the Highway, Boosting National Logistics and Integrating the Region into the Country’s Development.
A billion-dollar investment in a single highway has just been confirmed. The BR-364, a vital axis connecting São Paulo to Acre, has begun a historic transformation. The project promises to not only modernize infrastructure but also boost the economy of the entire Northern Brazil.
The Investment of R$ 10.23 Billion in Infrastructure
In 2025, the federal government signed a concession of R$ 10.23 billion. The amount will be used to transform 686 km of the BR-364, in the stretch between Porto Velho and Vilhena, in Rondônia. The project represents a historic leap for the logistics of the North Arc. The plan includes duplications, marginal lanes, walkways, and modern bridges.

This project goes beyond traffic safety. It connects the agribusiness of the Midwest to the mineral potential of Northern Brazil and the economy of the Northeast. The road is no longer just a passage. It becomes a true vector for development for the country.

The project that was supposed to be ready for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil debuted with a 12-year delay and nearly R$ 6 billion invested: the Line 17-Gold of the São Paulo monorail opened with reduced hours and is only expected to operate fully in October.
From Isolated Road to Pillar of National Logistics
The BR-364 was inaugurated in 1960 to connect Cuiabá to Porto Velho, opening up territories that were previously isolated. Over time, sections were paved and modernized, mainly in Mato Grosso. However, the north still suffered from a lack of adequate infrastructure. The absence of duplication caused accidents, slowdowns, and losses in productivity.
The flow of grains, meat, and minerals was hampered. In light of this situation, the agricultural bench and productive sectors pressured for a solution. The result was the concession of the section in Rondônia. The measure is an institutional response to create a modern, safe, and efficient flow channel.
What Is Already Being Done in Practice
The transformation has already begun. The concessionaire Nova 364 S.A. was authorized to work on emergency repairs even before the contract was signed. One of the first advances occurred in the urban area of Jaru, with a duplicated stretch. Another crucial action took place at the bridge over the Candeias River, which has been closed since January 2025 due to structural problems.
The timetable is ambitious. The 30-year contract provides for the delivery of 80% of the improvements in the first 5 years. The concessionaire is also hiring 480 professionals for the operation. Technology is a differentiator, with the use of polymer-modified asphalt, which is more resistant to heat and heavy traffic.
Improvements and Modernization of the Highway

The work plan is extensive. 107.5 km of the highway will be duplicated to increase mobility and reduce collision risks. The project will also implement 190.5 km of additional lanes and 17.8 km of marginal roads, which improve urban traffic.
The modernization includes 24 walkways, 90 bus stops, and 24 wildlife crossings. For safety and oversight, 90 cameras with automatic license plate reading, 61 message boards, and 30 weighing equipment will be installed. Additionally, 12 integrated operational bases will provide 24-hour support to drivers.
More Than Asphalt, A Development Platform
This mega project is a catalyst for the country’s connectivity. By modernizing logistics in Rondônia, the project attracts investments, generates jobs, and reduces freight costs. It strengthens the integration of Northern Brazil with the North Arc, a strategic corridor that channels national production.
With the completion of the works, the region will have more than an improved highway. It will have a development platform. The modernization of the BR-364 is the backbone that connects people, products, and the potential of the north to the rest of Brazil. The path to development is finally being built.
