Based on Revenue, Audience, and Production Capacity, TV Globo Establishes Itself as the Largest Television Network in Latin America, but Faces Strong Competition from Mexican TelevisaUnivision.

In the competitive landscape of continental media, the title of largest television network in Latin America is consistently attributed to Brazil’s TV Globo. The Brazilian broadcaster remains the region’s leader in 2025, based on key indicators of revenue, audience reach, territorial coverage, and an industrial-scale content production capacity.

According to market data compiled by publications such as Forbes and the portal Poder360, the main competitor of Globo is the Mexican giant TelevisaUnivision. Although the Spanish-speaking company has an immense international reach, Globo’s operational scale and absolute dominance within the vast Brazilian market secure its leadership position on the continent.

How Is the Size of a Broadcaster Measured?

To define which is the largest television network in Latin America, the analysis considers four fundamental pillars:

  1. Annual Revenue: the net income generated by the company.
  2. Audience and Reach: the number of people the network reaches daily.
  3. Geographical Coverage: the percentage of the territory and population that the broadcaster covers.
  4. Production Capacity: the scale of its studios and the volume of original content.

Brazilian Leadership: TV Globo in Numbers

Founded by Roberto Marinho on April 26, 1965, TV Globo has built a solid leadership over decades, presenting numbers that place it in a category of its own in the region.

  • Revenue: Grupo Globo reported a net income of R$ 17.4 billion in 2024.
  • Audience: data from Kantar IBOPE Media indicate that TV Globo reaches around 80 to 100 million Brazilians daily, almost half the population of the country.
  • Coverage: the network has a structure of 122 broadcasters (own and affiliated), bringing its signal to 5,482 municipalities, reaching 99.6% of Brazilian households.

Globo Studios: The Largest Content Factory on the Continent

The production capacity of Globo is one of its greatest differentiators. The Globo Studios, located in Rio de Janeiro (formerly Projac), is the largest content production complex in Latin America.

With a total area of 1.73 million square meters and 13 recording studios, Globo produces approximately 3,000 hours of entertainment annually, including its famous telenovelas, which are the broadcaster’s main export product and consolidate its position as the largest television network in Latin America.

The Hispanic Competition: The Power of TelevisaUnivision

Globo’s main rival in the fight for the top of the continent is TelevisaUnivision. The group, resulting from the merger of the content division of Mexican Televisa with American Univision in 2022, is the largest Spanish-language media company in the world.

While Globo dominates the Portuguese-speaking market, TelevisaUnivision is the absolute leader in the Hispanic world, with a strong presence in Mexico and, especially, in the valuable Hispanic market of the United States. Historically, Televisa is the largest exporter of soap operas in the world.

Why Does Globo Stay at the Top?

Although TelevisaUnivision is a giant with immense reach and cultural influence, the combination of all factors ensures the leadership of TV Globo.

The absolute dominance in a unique and massive market like Brazil, with its over 200 million inhabitants, combined with robust revenue and an industrial-scale content production capacity, consolidate the Brazilian broadcaster as the largest television network in Latin America.
