Experts comment on whether the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid is truly economical and brings improvements in performance
The new Fiat Fastback Hybrid is Fiat's first hybrid car in Brazil, but does it deliver what it promises in terms of economy and performance? The Auto Super team went into detail to answer many consumers' questions, and CPG spoke to the channel's experts to bring a complete analysis of the launch.
The new Fiat Fastback Hybrid, available in the Impetus and Audace versions, is designed to adapt Fiat to the new Proconve L8 emissions standards, which come into force next year.
This model comes with a 3 kW electric motor integrated into the 1.0 turbo combustion engine, with 130 hp (ethanol) and 125 hp (gasoline). The starting price of the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid is around R$ 161.199. But does this electric motor really make a difference in consumption and driving experience?

- Sudden shutdown problems on the move led mining company Vale to BAN all Fiat Toro 2.0 diesels from its fleet, made up of more than 3.000 vehicles
- BYD Seal 2024: 530 horsepower, over 500 km of autonomy and 0 to 100 in 3,6 seconds with the price of a Civic!
- Volkswagen Polo Track 2024 arrives with a 1.0 naturally aspirated engine with up to 84 hp, consumption of 15,5 km/l, and space for the whole family, redefining the concept of an entry-level car in Brazil!
Performance of the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid
When analyzing the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid, Auto Super experts highlighted that the 3 kW electric motor does not drive the car directly.
Instead, it assists the combustion engine by replacing the starter motor and contributing to a smoother and more efficient start. In practice, this translates into a more pleasant and quieter driving experience, especially in urban areas.
The new Fiat Fastback Hybrid also features an optimized start-stop system, allowing for a faster and smoother response, ideal for heavy city traffic.
During testing, the team noticed an improvement in the smoothness of the 1.0 turbo engine's operation, but the overall power remains the same, as the electric motor is not responsible for directly moving the vehicle.
Although the electric motor of 3 kW improves the initial response and reduces the famous turbo “delay” at the exits, experts warn that Fiat could have gone a little further, adopting a more robust electrification system, like the one we find in models from brands such as Mercedes-Benz.
Consumption: is the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid economical?
According to Fiat, the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid can offer savings of up to 12% in fuel consumption compared to the traditional model with a 1.0 turbo engine.
This data seems promising, but during the test, the Auto Super team observed that average consumption was around 5,1 km/l with ethanol, a value that still needs to be better analyzed over a longer period of use.
The mild hybrid system of the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid uses energy recovered from braking and from the combustion engine itself to recharge the battery.
This process allows for smoother operation, but it still doesn't reach the economy levels of a full hybrid. Still, this system promises advantages for those who drive in urban areas, where the car faces constant stops and starts.
In the initial tests carried out by the Auto Super team, the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid recorded an average consumption of around 5,1 km/l with ethanol in urban stretches, a result lower than that indicated by Inmetro.
This difference can be attributed to the specific test conditions, such as the short route and heavy traffic. The Fastback's mild hybrid system does not drive the car directly, but only assists the combustion engine, especially when starting and resuming, which limits fuel economy.
Inmetro, which carried out controlled measurements, reported higher numbers: with ethanol, the hybrid Fastback does 8,9 km/l in the city and 9,8 km/l on the highway; with gasoline, it reaches 12,6 km/l in the city and 13,9 km/l on the highway.
Design and improvements
Externally, the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid has received some subtle tweaks that reinforce the visual identity of the hybrid model.
The hybrid versions have the option of a new exclusive blue color, as well as Black Piano finishes on the front and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels. The front grille and Fiat logo in matte gray are also details that differentiate this hybrid version.
Inside, the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid offers a 10,1-inch multimedia center with native navigation and connectivity with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.
There is also inductive charging, USB and USB-C inputs and a single-zone automatic air conditioning system.
However, Fiat failed to include some safety features that its competitors already offer, such as adaptive cruise control (ACC) and six airbags, with the model only having four airbags.
Is the new Fastback worth it?
Auto Super experts concluded that the new Fiat Fastback Hybrid is a good option for those looking for a car with moderate economy and who want to benefit from tax exemptions for hybrid vehicles in some cities.
Fiat was right to bring a hybrid version to meet new environmental regulations, but there is still room for improvement, especially in the inclusion of safety features and in expanding the capacity of the electric motor.
The new Fiat Fastback Hybrid is more efficient in urban use and provides a smoother ride, but the impact on consumption still needs to be better analyzed to determine whether it really offers significant savings.
