Free Courses at USP Bring Together Areas Such as Technology, Humanities, Literature, and Social Studies, with Staggered Registrations, Limited Spots, and Lottery Selection, Offering Online Training in the First Semester of 2026.

The Faculty of Philosophy, Languages, and Human Sciences of the University of São Paulo, FFLCH-USP, has opened registrations for 87 free courses, fully online, totaling 7,000 spots.

The selection takes place through a lottery, while the enrollment schedule varies depending on the course, with concentrated periods between January 19 and February 4.

Part of the summer courses at the unit, the initiative offers training in Philosophy and Human Sciences, as well as Linguistics and Literature.

Among the announced topics are data analysis with the R language, studies on literature and slavery in Brazil, debates on reproductive justice, content related to artificial intelligence, and reflections on Afro-Brazilian culture.

Functioning of Spots and Format of Online Courses at USP

The courses are open to the general public and have no cost, which expands access to different profiles of interested individuals.

The classes are held entirely remotely, and the distribution of spots is done through automated lottery in the registration system, without human intervention.

There is no waitlist, and if there are cancellations, the system itself can conduct new lotteries among registered participants.

The program includes a certificate, provided that the participant meets the minimum attendance requirement set by the organization, with a reference of 75% presence.

Each course has its own scheduling, with detailed information on workload, dates, and class dynamics available at the time of registration.

USP Courses Focused on Technology, AI, and Data Analysis

Part of the programming is aimed at tools and contemporary debates, such as Criminal Data Analysis with the R language and Introduction to Natural Language Processing.

These courses directly relate to areas associated with artificial intelligence, statistical analysis, and the use of data in academic research and practical applications.

Literature, History, and Culture Among the Highlights of FFLCH-USP

At the same time, the curriculum maintains a strong emphasis on humanistic education, with courses dedicated to political philosophy, aesthetics, social history, and literature.

In this axis, studies on authoritarianism, the circulation of ideas, and cultural production in different historical periods are featured.

There is also space for courses focused on identities, memory, and culture, such as Roger Bastide and Afro-Brazilian Culture, Memory Cosmopolitics in the Formation of Afro-Brazilian Collections, and Sociology of Contemporary Black Culture: Afrofuturism and Female Rap.

On another front, proposals addressing gender, sexuality, and political disputes arise, such as Reproductive Justice and Religion: Women’s Bodies in Dispute, Disobeying the Patriarchy: Gender, Territories, and Latin American Resistances, and Experiences, Memories, and Experiences of Women and Homosexuals during the Military Dictatorship.

Registration Calendar and Courses by Group

The registrations are organized into seven groups, defined according to specific dates.

The Group 1, with registration on January 19 and 20, includes courses such as Criminal Data Analysis with the R language, Anthropology, Youths, and Education, Literature and Slavery in Brazil, Introduction to Natural Language Processing, and A Brief History of Digital Games, among others.

In Group 2, with registrations on January 21 and 22, courses like Contemporary Africa Through the Lenses of Cinema and Literature, Understanding Black Parties, Rap, and Their Relations with the City of São Paulo, Brazilian Children’s Literature, and Neologisms and Morphological Competence appear.

Group 3, with a window from January 23 to 25, gathers courses such as Reproductive Justice and Religion, Research Methods in Social Sciences, The Kurdish Movement in Syria, Roger Bastide and Afro-Brazilian Culture, and Female Voices in History.

Group 4, scheduled for January 26 and 27, includes topics such as Language Acquisition, The Concept of Power in Michel Foucault, History of Animals, Literature and Travel in Europe, and Italo Calvino and Oulipo.

In Group 5, with registrations on January 28 and 29, there are courses on Chinese Development, Gender and Latin American Resistances, Political Leadership, and Mass Culture in Brazil.

Group 6, from January 30 to February 2, brings discussions on Contemporary Geopolitics, Afro-Brazilian Memory, History of Colombia, Scientific Dissemination, and Contemporary Black Culture.

Finally, Group 7, with registrations on February 3 and 4, includes courses such as The Cinematic (Graphy) of Vinicius de Moraes, Erving Goffman and Interactional Sociology, Hilda Hilst and Literary Editing, and Ubuntu Metaphysics Applied to Contemporary Issues.

How to Register for Free Online Courses at USP

Registration should be made in the Apolo System, in the public area of USP Extension Courses, respecting the period corresponding to each group.

Since spots are limited and selection occurs through lottery, it is important to monitor the result and, if chosen, follow the system’s instructions to confirm participation and receive information about classes and required attendance.
