INSS Confirms Billion-Dollar Payment to Retirees After Irregular Deductions. Request Made Through the Meu INSS App.
The INSS began the reimbursement of amounts incorrectly deducted from social security benefits and has already refunded more than two-thirds of retirees and pensioners who contested irregular charges.
The measure, which involves billion-dollar payments, comes after investigations of fraud in agreements with associative entities and was reinforced by the extension of the deadline for new reimbursement requests through Meu INSS, ensuring that more beneficiaries can recover their money without resorting to the courts.

INSS Returns Undue Deduction to 67% of Retirees Who Contested
The most recent balance from INSS shows that 67.6% of retirees and pensioners who questioned undue deductions have already received their reimbursements. In total, over R$ 2.9 billion have been paid to 4,263,526 beneficiaries, within a context of more than six million challenges.
These numbers reflect a concentrated effort by the agency to correct flaws that directly affected the monthly payments of retirees, many of whom were surprised by unauthorized deductions from their benefits.

Millions Still Await Analysis or Response from Entities
Despite the progress, part of the processes is still underway. About 1.6 million challenges have already received responses from the involved entities, which provided documents such as signatures and audios alleging authorization from the insured parties.
This material, however, is still undergoing analysis by the INSS. If the documentation is deemed insufficient or irregular, the deduction will be considered undue, and the payment will be refunded to the retiree.
In addition, 431,000 requests are still waiting for responses from the challenged entities. They have 15 business days to prove the legality of the charges. If they fail to provide valid evidence, the reimbursement is automatically released.
Understand What the Undue Deductions from INSS Are
Frauds related to undue deductions began to be identified in 2019 but were only stopped this year, following the initiation of Operation Sem Desconto, conducted by the Federal Police with the support of the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU).
The scheme involved Technical Cooperation Agreements (ACTs) between INSS and associative entities that allowed direct deductions from benefits.
The investigations resulted in the dismissal of members of the institute’s leadership and are also being investigated by a CPMI of INSS in the National Congress.
Currently, the agency is returning amounts deducted between 2020 and 2025, a period during which thousands of retirees and pensioners were affected.
Deadline to Request INSS Refund Extended
To ensure the rights of all affected, the federal government extended the deadline to request reimbursement until March 20. Initially, the deadline was set for February 14.
According to INSS, the decision was made due to instabilities in Meu INSS, the digital platform used by insured individuals to track benefits and request services.
The institute also reported that it maintains daily contact with Dataprev, which is responsible for social security technology.
Maintenance May Affect Access to Meu INSS
Dataprev announced that it will conduct scheduled maintenance, temporarily leaving INSS systems unavailable between this Tuesday and next Sunday (February 1).
Even in this scenario, the government estimates that about 850,000 retirees and pensioners are still eligible to request reimbursement for improperly deducted amounts.
How to Request a Refund for INSS Deductions
Requests for reimbursement can be made for free through official channels:
Meu INSS (app or website), with login on the Portal Gov.br;
Phone 135, with service from Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.;
Postal Service Agencies, with in-person support at over five thousand locations.
These channels allow retirees to register challenges without intermediaries.
Second Stage Ensures Payment After Analysis
After contesting the deduction, the beneficiary must wait for the response from the responsible entity. If there is no valid proof or if false documents are identified, the retiree will be entitled to reimbursement.
In this case, it will be necessary to agree to the payment plan, which can be done via Meu INSS or at the postal service agencies. It is important to highlight that, in this second phase, phone 135 is not available.
Goal is to Avoid Legal Action and Accelerate Payment
According to INSS, the extension of the deadline and the simplification of the process aim to ensure that retirees and pensioners recover amounts quickly, safely, and without the need to go to court.
With billions already refunded and thousands of requests still under analysis, the case is consolidating as one of the largest reimbursement operations ever conducted by Social Security.
