The Sol do Cerrado Project is one of the largest solar energy production projects in all of Latin America. Vale's billionaire investments will begin to bear fruit soon, after the start of production of the resource in the solar park.

Vale continues to expand its presence in the domestic renewable energy and seeks to become a leader in the segment. For this Friday, (18/11), the company is officially starting production at the Sol do Cerrado Project, a solar park located in the municipality of Jaíba, in the northern region of Minas Gerais. The solar energy produced on site will be able to meet the needs of a city of 800 inhabitants in the coming years.

After dominating the national mining sector and becoming the largest company in Brazil, Vale seeks to reach the same position with the production of solar energy.

The mining company announced the start of energy generation at the Projeto Sol do Cerrado solar park project, installed in the region of Minas Gerais.

The project is one of the largest solar energy parks in Latin America, with an installed capacity of 766 Megawatts-peak, equivalent to the consumption of a city of 800 inhabitants.

At the end of July 2023, when it is already operating at its maximum capacity, the solar park will guarantee a production of 16% of all the energy consumed by the company in its operations.

Located in an area equivalent to more than 1,3 soccer fields, the solar energy production complex received an investment of R$ 3 billion and became one of the largest undertakings in all of Latin America.

The Sol do Cerrado Project currently comprises 17 subparks, four of which have already been energized, and Vale seeks to make these numbers even greater in the coming years.

When at full capacity, the plant will have 1,4 million solar panels with an automatic tracking system for the movement of the sun during the day, thus ensuring even greater use of the sun.

The company spared no investment and secured a total of 10,2 million meters of cables so that the solar energy production and transmission system operated in the best possible way.

Sol do Cerrado Project will contribute to Vale's initiative to zero carbon consumption by the end of 2050

Vale has been investing more and more in sustainability projects and minimizing the environmental impacts caused by its operations.

In this way, the company announced a few years ago the initiative to zero consumption and carbon emissions in its operations by the end of the year 2050.

To this end, it has been building large renewable energy projects, such as the Sol do Cerrado Project, a wind farm that will contribute to the company's sustainability initiative.

The energy generated by Sol do Cerrado will reduce Vale's emissions by 134 tCO2e/year, which represents the emissions of approximately 100 compact cars.

“Sol do Cerrado is an unprecedented project for Vale, which brings local development, renewable energy and is linked to our goal of being leaders in sustainable mining”, says Eduardo Bartolomeo, president of Vale.

Finally, the solar park project guaranteed a total of 3 jobs over the years of development, contributing to the region of Minas Gerais.
