Volkswagen announces new Saveiro 2025 with turbo engine of up to 128 hp, MQB-A0 platform and national production to compete with Fiat Strada.

The new generation of the Saveiro will be produced in Taubaté (SP) using the MQB-A0 platform, with 1.0 TSI engines of up to 128 hp. Volkswagen seeks to regain market leadership, dominated by the Fiat Strada, which sold almost three times more units in 2024.

Volkswagen has finally decided to completely revamp its compact Saveiro pickup truck, which will gain a new generation in 2025 to compete directly with the absolute leader in the segment, the Fiat Strada. The official launch of the model, scheduled for the second half of the year, will feature a modern platform, more efficient engines and technologies aligned with the current demands of the Brazilian market. The information was released by the Terra Mobilidade portal on March 22, 2025.

Currently produced with the old Gol G5 platform launched in 2009, the Saveiro has already undergone three facelifts, but remained technologically outdated compared to its rival from Fiat. In 2024, the Strada sold an impressive 144.684 units, while the Saveiro was well behind, with only 56.984 vehicles sold. Now, with the complete renovation, Volkswagen intends to reduce this large difference in sales.

MQB-A0 platform and production of the new Saveiro in Taubaté

Volkswagen announces new Saveiro 2025 with turbo engine of up to 128 hp, MQB-A0 platform and national production to compete with Fiat Strada.

The new Saveiro 2025 will be built on the modular MQB-A0 platform, the same one used in the Polo Track and Tera SUV models. According to the Terra portal, the use of this modern base will allow the Volkswagen pickup to receive more technological and safety features, in addition to better structural performance and interior comfort.

The Volkswagen factory in Taubaté (SP) will be responsible for producing the new model, taking advantage of the existing infrastructure for the Polo and Tera models, which will reduce manufacturing costs and enable more competitive prices in the national market.

Efficient engines and improved performance

One of the main attractions of the new Saveiro will be the adoption of 1.0 TSI turbocharged engines, with two power options: 116 and up to 128 horsepower. As reported by the specialized portal Terra Mobilidade, these engines will be able to come with either a manual or automatic transmission, something much desired by consumers who seek comfort and practicality in their daily lives.

In addition to greater power, turbo engines will provide savings of fuel and better performance, making the Saveiro more competitive against the Fiat Strada, which currently dominates the segment with different versions and mechanical options.

New design and advanced technology

In terms of appearance, the new Saveiro will feature a completely renewed design, in line with Volkswagen's new global visual identity, with more modern and robust lines. The interior will also be completely redesigned, featuring technologies already present in other vehicles of the brand, such as a digital dashboard, integrated multimedia center and advanced active safety systems.

The expectation is that the model will have different versions, from basic options to full versions, offering items such as LED headlights, autonomous emergency braking and advanced driving assistants, as highlighted by the Terra portal.

If it already has a 1.6 engine, why a 1.0? Does this turbo overcome this difference?!

It excels in everything, power, consumption, technology... 1.0 TSI is life. Naturally aspirated cars are a thing of the past.

I have a 2020 robust cd, it really doesn't have any starting power, anyway. But does this new technology have good performance with a full load on a hill?

For those who like turbo problems, it's an illusion. It's like taking energy drinks with tatalafil and dying sooner. That's what a turbo car is. Put a 1.6 naturally aspirated MSI with a manual transmission and even the guy at the bar can fix it.
