Volkswagen Launches the Golf GTI Edition 50, Limited Edition with 325 Hp Engine, Exclusive Technologies, and Classic Look to Celebrate 50 Years of the Sports Car.
The Golf GTI Edition 50 has just established itself as the most powerful and refined GTI in history, marking the model’s 50th anniversary in 2025.
Unveiled during the Nürburgring 24h, the model combines mechanical, visual, and technological updates to celebrate half a century of Volkswagen’s iconic compact sports car.
At the heart of the vehicle is the 2.0 TSI EA888 engine, adapted from the Clubsport range, now delivering 325 hp (239 kW) and 42.0 kgfm of torque — 60 hp and 50 Nm above the conventional Golf GTI.

Performance and Speed of the New GTI
With a 7-speed DSG transmission and electronic differential, the Edition 50 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 s and electronically reaches 270 km/h (168 mph).
Performance is 0.1 s faster than the Clubsport and 0.4 s quicker in the 0-200 km/h sprint.
At the Ring, the version captured the desires of enthusiasts: it completed the legendary Nordschleife in 7 min 46 s 13, becoming the fastest production Golf on the circuit — with a time adjusted to 7’41″27.
It surpassed the 2022 Golf R record by approximately 6 s on the same section.
Sport Suspension and Performance Package
The chassis has been lowered by 15 mm compared to the basic GTI, with front MacPherson suspension and rear multilink, as well as progressive steering and adaptive DCC dampers.
There are five driving modes, including one specifically oriented for tracks — like Nürburgring.
For extreme performance, the Performance Package is available, which includes:
- Stiffer springs, an additional 5 mm lowering (total – 20 mm);
- Bearings with increased negative camber;
- Forged 19″ wheels with Bridgestone Potenza Race semi-slick tires;
- Akrapovič titanium exhaust: reduces 11 kg and provides a sporty sound.
These adjustments result in more agile handling, increased grip, and a total weight reduction of about 30 kg — with a clear response and focus on cornering stability.
Exclusive Design and Advanced Technology
Maintaining the traditional GTI identity, the Edition 50 features:
Red front stripe, black roof and mirrors, red details on the 19″ wheels;
LED Matrix headlights with a range of up to 500 m;
“GTI-50” badges on the spoiler and mirrors, as well as exclusive colors Dark Moss Green Metallic and Tornado Red.
Inside, sporty plaid seats, red seatbelts, Racing Green details, steering wheel with GTI-50 logo, and paddle shifters.
The multimedia center brings a 12.9″ screen, digital cockpit, and integrated ChatGPT voice command — the first application of this technology in a European sports car.
Production, Price, and Consumption
Produced in Wolfsburg, manufacturing begins in late 2025.
The first deliveries to consumers are expected in the 1st quarter of 2026, with a base price in Europe estimated at € 55,000 (approximately R$ 348 thousand).
In environmental terms, the combined consumption is estimated between 7.5 and 7.9 l/100 km, with CO₂ emissions between 172 and 181 g/km, fitting into efficiency class F.
Commemorative Editions and the GTI Legacy
The Edition 50 revives Volkswagen’s tradition of commemorative editions every five years — such as the Edition 35 (Mk6) and Edition 30 (Mk5) — adding power and special preparations to the GTI line.
Over the past 50 years, more than 2.5 million units have been produced across eight generations, solidifying the GTI as a global landmark.
The historical trajectory highlights records such as:
- Clubsport S (Mk7, 2016): 310 hp, 385 Nm, 7’49″21 at the Ring;
- GTI R Mk8 (2022): 333 hp, 7’47″31 (base time);
- Edition 50: 325 hp, 7’46″13 (7’41″27 adjusted).
