Construction of the International Bridge of the Bioceanic Route has reached 75% completion. The structure connects Porto Murtinho in Mato Grosso do Sul to Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay.

A R$ 300 million logistics giant is taking shape in Serra with over 100,000 m² and raises a question: how can this transform e-commerce and distribution in the state?
Updates were presented during the 10th Meeting of the Mixed Commission of the Bioceanic Bridge, held in Porto Murtinho.
Structure Advances at an Accelerated Pace
The bridge will be 1,294 meters long and 21 meters wide.
The main work is 75% complete. The road accesses, with 13.1 km in length, are in the initial phase, with about 17% completed.
In this segment, four smaller bridges are being built. One of them will be nearly 700 meters long, necessary to cross a flooded area.
The most important thing is that this connection is part of the Capricorn Highway Corridor.
This route connects the northern ports of Chile, such as Antofagasta and Iquique, to Brazil, passing through Paraguay and Argentina. Porto Murtinho will be one of the main logistical points of the connection.
Customs Infrastructure Also in Planning
To ensure the smooth flow of transportation, the installation of customs complexes on both sides of the border is planned. The Federal Revenue estimates an initial flow of 250 trucks per day.
This number may grow as the Bioceanic Route consolidates as an option for exports and imports between Mercosur and the Asian continent.
Chancellor Daniel Falcon highlighted the expected impact.
According to him, the bridge will bring growth, increased trade, and job generation in the region. He also praised the collaboration between the involved governments.
Municipality Will Have a New Role in Foreign Trade
The mayor of Porto Murtinho, Nelson Cintra, stated that the city will become a gateway for Brazilian foreign trade.
For him, the bridge represents an economic transformation for the municipality.
Jaime Verruck reinforced the forecast for total delivery by the end of 2026, including the accesses and customs posts. He stated that the work is a state and national priority.
ACI in Executive Project Phase
Another topic discussed was the creation of an Integrated Customs Center (ACI) at a single head.
Paraguay was responsible for detailing its infrastructure demands, such as rooms and equipment.
This information will be used by Brazil to prepare the executive project. Verruck emphasized that the ACI is essential for integrating the customs systems of the two countries.
Dry Port May Be Necessary
With the expectation of increased cargo transportation, there is also the possibility of constructing a dry port in Porto Murtinho. The city hall has already offered an area to facilitate the project.
According to the secretary, this structure could be bid if there is a need to expand the customs system in the region.
Agreement Between Countries Advances
The ratification of an addendum to the Bridge Agreement was also discussed. The document defines tax issues between the countries and is already being processed in the Brazilian government. It is expected that the text will reach the Federal Senate soon.
Another proposal presented at the meeting was the construction of a new bridge over the Apa River, between Bela Vista (MS) and Bella Vista Norte (PY). The idea is to further enhance regional road integration. The federal government is studying the feasibility of linking this future structure to BR-267.
The Bioceanic Route is a highway corridor over 2,400 km long. It connects the Atlantic Ocean, through Brazil, to the Pacific Ocean, through Chile. The trajectory also passes through Paraguay and Argentina.
The proposal aims to reduce the time and costs of transporting goods. According to estimates, savings may reach 30% in logistics costs and up to 15 days in travel time compared to the sea route via the Panama Canal.
