Youtuber Faces Lawsuit After Setting A Ferrari F8 Tributo On Fire During Recording In Texas, With Allegations Of Negligence, Fraud, And Breach Of Contract

American Youtuber Cody Detwiler is facing a lawsuit after appearing in a video destroying a Ferrari F8 Tributo. He became known for producing content that showcases expensive vehicles being pushed to the limit. Now, according to Autoblog, this practice has resulted in a lawsuit in the Federal Court of the United States.

The Ferrari used in the recording was a rented car. The model is worth about US$ 400 thousand.

Reason For The Lawsuit Against The Youtuber

The vehicle’s creditors and the leasing company affiliated with the dealership decided to file the lawsuit. They claim that the content creator violated the contract by treating the supercar in a negligent and abusive manner.

The lawsuit maintains that the use of the car exceeded any acceptable limits. Additionally, the plaintiffs allege that Detwiler ignored basic leasing rules.

How The Incident Occurred

The investigated episode took place during the filming of a video in a dry cornfield in Texas.

He was driving at high speed when the exhaust heat supposedly ignited a fire in the surrounding vegetation.

The flames spread quickly and destroyed the Ferrari. The crew’s van, parked nearby, also ended up lost in the fire.

The Video As Evidence

The published content was ironically titled The Fastest Way To Lose Four Hundred Thousand Dollars.

The video has amassed sixteen million views. Therefore, it has become the main piece of evidence used by the plaintiffs.

They claim that the destruction was not accidental. For them, everything was planned solely to ensure engagement and financial return.

Other Accusations

The lawsuit also mentions fraud, misuse of property, and unjust enrichment. The creditors argue that the Youtuber may have used misleading information to obtain the leasing.

Another highlighted point is the possible absence of the mandatory insurance policy. According to the plaintiffs, this failure exacerbated the damage.

What The Creditors Are Asking From The Youtuber

The plaintiffs are seeking full reimbursement of the Ferrari’s value. They also include legal fees and punitive damages.

The case reignites discussions about how far content creators can go when seeking an audience online.
