A 25-year-old student living in Goiânia returned in full a Pix of R$ 200 thousand that was mistakenly deposited into his account, after an entrepreneur from Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, contacted him upon realizing that he had made an error in the transfer.

The deposit occurred on the morning of Friday (16), and the refund was completed on Tuesday (20), after the bank temporarily blocked the account due to the high amount.

According to the young man’s account, he did not use that account frequently and only became aware of the transaction after receiving a call from the sender, who was looking to reverse the transaction as quickly as possible.

The entrepreneur explained that he needed to pay for a truckload of cattle and became desperate upon realizing that he had sent the money to the wrong recipient.

Immediate Contact and Decision to Return the Amount

The conversation between the two took place shortly after the Pix was sent, still on the same morning.

According to the G1 portal, the entrepreneur reached out within seconds after the transfer, worried about the consequences of the mistake.

When informed of the error, the student stated that he never considered using an amount that did not belong to him and sought to reassure the other person on the line.

“I calmed him down, told him to be patient that if it was in my account, it would be returned. Then he stayed calmer,” he said.

The student reported that he had not used that account for years and, therefore, did not monitor the balance through the bank’s app.

The confirmation of the deposit came via a notification sent to the registered email, which initially caused some strangeness.

At first, he thought it might be a promotional message or an automated alert.

Shortly thereafter, however, his phone rang with the entrepreneur’s call requesting the return of the money and explaining the situation.

Preventive Block by the Bank Delayed the Refund

Even with the confirmation of the deposit, the amount was not immediately available for transactions.

The bank blocked the account for about 48 hours for analysis, due to the high amount and security protocols adopted by the institution.

The block occurred on the same day the Pix was received and extended through the weekend.

During that period, the student contacted the bank to explain the situation and request guidance on how to properly return the amount.

Error in DDD Caused Sending to Wrong Recipient

The explanation given for the error involves the phone number used as the Pix key at the time of the transfer. According to reports, the entrepreneur dialed the wrong DDD while performing the operation.

As a result, the amount was sent to a similar number associated with the student. In various accounts of the case, the mistake was described as a switch between DDD 66 and DDD 65, both referring to regions in Mato Grosso.

Full Refund After Account Liberation

The return of the Pix was only possible after the bank completed its checks and liberated the account for transactions. As soon as the block was lifted, the student made the full transfer of the amount to the true owner, resolving the issue.

He stated that throughout the process, he never considered keeping the money. Among the concerns mentioned were potential legal issues, matters involving the Federal Revenue, and possible judicial consequences.

Gratuity Offered After the Refund

After receiving the money back, the entrepreneur expressed gratitude for the stance taken by the student.

As reported by websites that quoted the interview given to G1, he made a payment of R$ 1 thousand as a form of compensation for the honesty shown.

In a message sent to the young man, the entrepreneur thanked him and wrote: “Money comes and money goes… Values and honesty have no price.” The refund of the Pix, according to reports, was not conditional on any type of reward.

Unemployed Student Seeks Work to Continue Studies

YouTube Video

Besides the episode involving the Pix, the story gained traction due to the student’s personal context. He stated that he is unemployed and pursuing a Nursing Technician course, aiming to enter the healthcare field.

The young man reported that he needs work to cover the costs of the course and continue his studies. In interviews reported by local media, he said he is open to job opportunities in different roles, such as stock clerk or similar activities.

Family Trajectory and Move to Goiânia

Publications that covered the case also mentioned the student’s family background. He is said to have left Maranhão as a teenager and later lived in Mato Grosso with his family.

Later on, he decided to move to Goiânia in search of better conditions to study. In some accounts, it is noted that he comes from a large family, with 12 siblings, which emphasizes the impact that the amount could have had on his life.

Case Reignites Debate About the Use of Pix

Despite the different versions about personal details, the central point of the case remains the same. A high-value Pix was sent to the wrong account, the sender sought the receiver, and after banking procedures and a preventive block, the money returned to the true owner.

The story spread rapidly in local publications and on social media, reigniting discussions about responsibility in using Pix. The episode also highlighted recurring doubts about the legal consequences of handling amounts received by mistake.

With the case resolved, the situation continues to generate reflections on how people react when faced with a large sum that does not belong to them.

What would you do if such an amount appeared in your account without explanation and the sender contacted you asking for the return?
