Sad Statistic in Brazil Alerts to Working Conditions in the Country and Results in the Launch, This Month, of the Campaign for Accident Prevention at Work (Canpat 2019) by the Government, Unions, and Workers.
A sad statistic haunts the country, every 3 hours and 40 minutes a person dies due to an accident in the workplace.
According to data from the Digital Observatory of Work Safety and Health, between 2012 and 2018, there were 17,200 fatalities due to some incident or disease related to labor activity.
This Observatory was developed and is maintained by the Labor Public Ministry in cooperation with the International Labor Organization within the framework of the Smartlab Decent Work Forum.
Yesterday (04/28) was celebrated as World and National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Workplace Accidents and Diseases, a date created especially to alert everyone about this serious problem and provoke reflection on the topic.

Regarding the number of death cases, the numbers had been decreasing from 2014 to 2017 (from 2,659 cases to 1,992), but in 2018 there was an increase with 2,022 cases recorded.
What is alarming is the number of workplace accidents, every 49 seconds, a case occurs in Brazil, and from 2014 to 2018, 4.7 million incidents of this type were registered.

The agency also highlights that the most affected age group by accidents is between 18 and 24 years for men and 30 to 34 years for women.
Work accidents not only harm workers but also generate a loss of 351 million workdays due to absences and the costs during this period exceeded R$ 82 billion.
According to Leonardo Mendonça, national coordinator for Environmental Defense at Work, from the Labor Public Ministry, Brazil still has much to improve in prevention systems and that many companies still prioritize production over providing cleaner and safer environments for workers.
The launch of Canpat 2019, a joint initiative of the federal government, the Labor Public Ministry, and employer entities aims to work in this direction of raising awareness among the involved parties.
