With The Success Of BYD And Its Electrified Models, Traditional Automakers Prepare An Offensive With New SUVs Focused On Economy And Technology. Meet 5 Models Coming To Compete In This Heated Market.

BYD has been capturing the Brazilian market with its hybrid and electric vehicles, betting on cost-effectiveness and low consumption, a significant attraction given the high fuel prices. This success is prompting traditional automakers to take action, and a new wave of more economical SUVs is on the way to intensify this competition for consumer preference.

Today, we will introduce five new SUVs that promise to challenge the dominance of Chinese BYD in Brazil. The newcomers offer proposals ranging from efficient aspirated engines to innovative hybrid systems, aiming to provide more economical alternatives for Brazilians.

Honda WR-V (New Generation)

The second generation of the Honda WR-V promises to evolve significantly, serving as an entry point for the brand’s crossovers in Brazil. With a beautiful design, full LED optical set, and 16-inch wheels, it will offer good interior space, similar to that of the HR-V, along with a comprehensive list of features. The engine will be a 1.5 aspirated Flex with direct injection, yielding 126 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed CVT transmission. Being lighter, it is expected to surpass 13 km/l in the city and 14 km/l on the highway with gasoline, with prices estimated between R$ 120,000 and R$ 150,000.

Nissan Kicks (New Generation): The Combustion SUV Aiming To Be The Most Economical In The Country

Nissan Kicks (New Generation)

The new second-generation Nissan Kicks will arrive to be perhaps the most modern and beautiful in its segment among SUVs. With a two-tone paint job and wheels of up to 19 inches, its main asset will be the new 1.0 turbo three-cylinder flex engine, with approximately 130 horsepower and CVT transmission, which is not related to the TCE engine of the Kardian. The promise is for fuel consumption above 13 km/l in the city and nearly 15 km/l on the highway (gasoline), making it the most economical combustion SUV in the country. It will debut in the first half of 2025, with prices ranging from R$ 130,000 to R$ 170,000.

Peugeot 2008 BioHybrid (2026 Line): One Of The Economical SUVs In Brazil

Considered one of the SUVs compactest and most beautiful for sale in the country, the Peugeot 2008 will receive for the 2026 line the BioHybrid system from Stellantis. This system, already present in the Fastback and Pulse, combines a 1.0 turbo three-cylinder engine with a 48V power generator, maintaining 130 horsepower and paired with a seven-speed CVT. The average consumption should approach 13 km/l in the city with gasoline. The price increase for the mild hybrid versions is expected to be around R$ 10,000.

Nissan X-Trail e-Power: The Mid-Size SUV With Plug-In Hybrid Consumption, But Without Needing A Socket

The Nissan X-Trail is a bold bet by the brand for a segment above the Sentra. This SUV stands out for its innovative e-Power system: a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine primarily acts as a generator of energy for the batteries, causing the car to be propelled almost always by the electric motor with 204 horsepower. The result is excellent fuel consumption of 21.4 km/l (gasoline) for a conventional hybrid. With a high-quality and well-equipped interior, the X-Trail is expected to be launched in the second half of 2025.

Toyota Yaris Cross: The Most Anticipated SUV Of The Year With A Flex Hybrid Option And A Promise Of Up To 30 Km/L

The Toyota Yaris Cross is undoubtedly one of the SUVs most eagerly awaited, positioned to replace the Yaris Hatch and Sedan. With a design reminiscent of a “mini RAV4,” the model will have in Brazil two engine options: 1.5 aspirated Flex and the sought-after 1.5 hybrid Flex, with approximately 120 combined horsepower. In neighboring countries, this hybrid version already registers averages of up to 30 km/l in urban circuits with gasoline. Set to arrive in the first half of 2025, its prices are expected to range between R$ 150,000 and over R$ 180,000 for the top versions.
