Another recent achievement for the company was receiving the certification as a Strategic Defense Company, further expanding EBSE’s opportunities within the sector. “To serve a nation with the continental dimensions and geopolitical importance that Brazil has, there is a very promising horizon in this sector of the economy, where opportunities will abound,” said Danemberg.

About the New Contract of EBSE with the Brazilian Navy for Maintenance Services on Naval Ships
According to Marco Danemberg, the contractual scope of services on the ships of the Brazilian Navy includes maintenance and repair activities, as well as the manufacture of some necessary items, such as piping.
Currently, the vessels are docked and/or moored at the Naval Arsenal and Naval Base in Rio de Janeiro.
EBSE has previously provided maintenance and repair services on the Navy’s Antarctic support vessels, also known as polar ships, frigates, patrol boats, and also on the largest ship in the Brazilian fleet, the Multipurpose Helicopter Carrier Atlântico.
The Director states that due to the expertise in services and the support that its manufacturing facility provides, including skilled labor, EBSE is assured of a unique mobility condition for this type of project. “Our planning for the project indicates that mobilization will be 100% completed by the end of January, and fully active at the Naval Arsenal,” said the executive.
The Importance of This New Contract from the Navy for EBSE
First of all, in the current scenario, impacted by the pandemic, the new contract for maintenance services on the naval ships will contribute to the economic recovery of the region, as it offers opportunities for qualified professionals, who still face difficulties in finding jobs in the market. Additionally, it has positive effects on other sectors of the production chain.
The second point is that this project expands the company’s growing engagement in the services sector, which is part of EBSE’s strategic plan goals.
Finally, Danemberg emphasizes that this contract increases the synergy between the company and the Brazilian Navy, which is an institution of the Ministry of Defense, enhancing the chances for new business opportunities in this segment and also contributing to strengthen the company’s presence in the Defense Industrial Base (BID).
Business Opportunities for EBSE After This Certification
The Defense sector represents more than 3% of the country’s GDP. The Defense Industrial Base (BID), although already quite robust, is still in a development phase and needs enhancement to meet the needs of a nation with the continental dimensions and geopolitical importance that Brazil has. Thus, there is a very promising horizon in this economic sector where, with technology and capacity to meet demands, opportunities will abound.
Rio de Janeiro has an extremely unique condition in this segment, being the largest pillar of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry, now stimulated by the creation of the Naval Cluster. With the Navy’s Strategic Programs – which encompass a significant portion of local content – and the shortages generated from the maritime region of the Blue Amazon, many opportunities will arise, and those who are prepared will certainly have a greater chance of participation in future ventures.
