Good news for the Northeast, Ambev announced that it has finalized an agreement with a private equity group for the construction of a wind farm that will supply all of its factories in the Northeast region, in addition to the five Budweiser breweries in Brazil. The announcement was made by the beer manufacturer this Friday, November 8. Keep an eye out, 600 jobs will be created with the construction of the Ambev factory in Minas Gerais.

According to the agreement made, Ambev will spend approximately R$ 600 million over a period of 15 years to Casaforte Investimentos. In exchange, the group will build a wind farm covering 1,600 hectares with a capacity exceeding 80 megawatts in Bahia.

Under the agreement made, Ambev will spend approximately R$ 600 million over a period of 15 years to Casaforte Investimentos. In exchange, the group will build a wind farm covering 1,600 hectares with a capacity exceeding 80 megawatts in Bahia.

Rodrigo Figueiredo, Vice President of Sustainability and Supply at Ambev, stated in an interview with “Reuters” this Friday that: “With this energy purchase agreement, 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide will no longer be emitted per year, which is equivalent to removing 35,000 cars from the streets each year.”

The executive adds that the construction licenses have already been granted and work is expected to begin in early 2020, with the wind farm starting operations in early 2022.

According to him, the wind complex will generate enough clean energy to supply 30% of all Ambev beverage factories in Brazil, which would include the five Budweiser breweries present in the country: – Itapissuma (PE), Jacareí (SP), Uberlândia (MG), Barra de Piraí (RJ), and Ponta Grossa (PR).

The Anheuser Busch InBev matrix has been striving globally to have 100% of the electricity used in all operations worldwide sourced from clean energy by 2025.

In Brazil alone, Ambev has invested approximately 17.5 billion reais over the past five years, which includes projects for adopting more sustainable business practices, according to the company.

The company signed an agreement of R$ 140 million with four partners for the construction of 31 solar plants that will supply all 94 distribution centers of Ambev in Brazil, in June of this year.

Last year, Ambev announced plans for the adoption of 1,600 electric trucks from Volkswagen across all 20 logistics operators that work with the company by 2023.

In 2018, the largest brewery in Latin America announced plans for the adoption of 1,600 electric trucks from Volkswagen across all 20 logistics operators that work with the company by 2023.

Figueiredo also stated that all solar plants will be delivered in the first half of 2020. Additionally, the Ambev executive stated: “This time we opted for a wind farm because it is more viable for high tension, but we are conducting studies for other regions and the technology will depend on wind conditions, solar irradiation, etc.”
